Only Mediocrities Go Unenvied
Observation Operating Room.
The Neurosurgery Dr. Shepherd and the Cardiothoracic Surgery surgeon Dr. Burke performed a combined resection of a giant tumor, accompanied by resident Dr. Dr. Bailey, anesthesiologist Dr. Tyler, and interns Adam and Cristina.
A group of doctors and nurses gathered under the searchlight, making it appear somewhat crowded.
The Observation Room upstairs was already full of doctors.
Alex crossed his arms and looked down at Adam and Cristina waiting in the Operating Room downstairs with displeasure.
This surgery was originally his.
Because of a malfunction in his Mike, he has been excluded from surgery and punished by Dr. Burke by being barred from the Operating Room for a week.
On what grounds?
This was an accident; he wasn't speaking ill of the patient to their face.
That's right!
He genuinely doesn't think he did anything wrong; blame the Mike!
In the Operating Room.
The first surgeon was Dr. Burke, who was in charge of the lung surgery.
The enormous tumor was severely compressing the patient's lungs, making it difficult for her to breathe and putting her at risk of suffocation at any moment.
After Dr. Burke has treated the lungs, Dr. Shepherd will then perform the spinal surgery.
Because of the dense nerves on the surface, the surgery requires extreme care and will therefore take a very long time.
Cristina, like Adam, was excited and confident.
However, eight hours later.
"Make it more attractive."
"Bring another bag of O-negative blood!"
"Electrifying these small bleeding points keeps my vision clear."
One order after another came from Dr. Burke's mouth.
"Dr. Duncan, can you hold on? You need to stay absolutely stable in the next few minutes."
Dr. Burke looked at Adam was carrying a giant tumor.
"No problem."
Adam remained calm and smiled confidently.
Dr. Burke nodded, then glanced at Cristina, who had long since given up and was now just standing by, and sighed inwardly.
Cristina pretended not to see Dr. Burke's gaze and dared not meet his eyes.
The reason she was able to enter the Operating Room was not because Dr. Burke chose her, but because she made Dr. Burke choose her.
Just like Alex, who acted to please patients and thus became their attending physician.
Cristina managed to persuade Dr. Burke. Dr. Burke to bypass resident Dr. Dr. Bailey and have Dr. Bailey directly notify Cristina to participate in the surgery with a single request.
However, unlike Bailey's strong opposition to Dr. Shepherd's bias towards Meredith, Dr. Bailey was aware of Cristina's abilities.
Therefore, she had no objection and never imagined that Cristina, who was very similar to her, would eventually follow Meredith's evil path.
At first Cristina and Adam held the giant tumor together, allowing them to observe this groundbreaking surgery from the best possible surgical field of vision.
However, as time went on, even though Adam bore the majority of the weight, Cristina, with her ordinary body, could not withstand the strain of maintaining the lifting posture for eight hours.
The frequent twisting of the body accidentally caused the giant tumor to move.
There was nothing Adam could do but say that he was perfectly fine on his own and asked Cristina to step back so as not to make things worse.
"Excellent work, Dr. Duncan!"
Half an hour later, after completing the lung surgery, Dr. Burke expressed his appreciation for Adam's ability to keep the giant tumor stable throughout the entire procedure, as if it were placed on a platform.
"Your body is indeed as strong as the rumors say! It seems that for the next similar surgery, it will be more appropriate to come to you."
"I'm fine with anytime, anywhere."
Adam smiled in agreement.
Although it was a joke, Adam was telling the truth.
For Leonard's new rival to say such a thing is a great affirmation of Adam.
If Dr. Burke is willing to give Adam more opportunities in the future, Adam's Path of a Great Doctor will be even smoother.
"Hehe."
The operating room erupted in laughter.
When the surgeon makes a joke, everyone else naturally has to laugh along—it's basic courtesy, especially since it was actually quite funny.
"There are still five or six hours left."
Dr. Shepherd, who took over the lead surgery, was also impressed by Adam's stamina. Putting aside his frustration at being interrupted by Adam that morning, he joked, "Dr. Duncan, are you sure you can still do it?"
"No problem."
Adam laughed and said, "If we can't hold on, I'll have Dr. Yang take over immediately."
Cristina looked at Adam gratefully upon hearing this.
"Okay, let's get started. The sooner we finish, the lower the risk for the patient."
Dr. Shepherd announced the official start of the spinal surgery.
"Look at this artery, my God, it's as thick as a thumb. Have you ever seen a blood vessel this thick?"
"No."
Everyone shook their heads.
"This thing requires a large blood supply."
While performing the surgery, Dr. Shepherd said, "We've almost used up our 10 units of blood. Contact the blood bank immediately; we need more O-negative blood."
Upstairs Observation Room.
"Damn Adam!"
Alex had been busy outside, and when he returned, he saw Adam being praised by Dr. Burke and everyone laughing. This contrasted sharply with the fact that he was being scolded and punished by Dr. Burke, and it was truly an eyesore.
Adam's disdain for him was something he had always noticed and was aware of.
He used to look down on it.
You look down on me, and I look down on you too.
But now, the stark contrast is like a slap in the face, as if telling him: Adam certainly has the right to look down on you, and you can only endure it.
This infuriated him, given his roguish personality.
"How is the situation?"
Meredith finished what he was doing and went into the Observation Room.
"Still the same."
Alex said indifferently.
Are you really as shallow and cold-hearted as you appear?
Meredith looked at him scrutinizingly.
"What, you want to go out for a drink tonight?"
Alex immediately turned to look at her. "Listen to the pain deep in my heart?"
"Do your methods for picking up girls even work?"
Meredith laughed.
Occasionally.
Alex shrugged.
"That must be because of your appearance."
Meredith looked away.
"You mean you agree?"
Alex gave a sly smile.
"No, I have a boyfriend..."
Meredith refused, but her hesitant tone betrayed something.
If Adam were there, he would definitely look at her boyfriend Mr. Dreamy Dr. Shepherd with pity.
The Operating Room is downstairs.
Dr. Shepherd was unaware that his girlfriend was having an affair with a handsome but roguish man, and he was completely focused on his surgery.
At that moment, the isolation door to the Operating Room was opened.
Without having time to put on a mask, Liz held it to her mouth as she walked in.
"Our surgery is not over yet!"
Dr. Burke, who was assisting from the side, reprimanded him.
"I had to perform open-heart surgery on Mr. Harper, a patient in ward 2114, right there in the ward."
Liz covered her face with her mask and said urgently.
What did you do?
Everyone looked over.
"What?!"
Alex was in the Observation Room upstairs, was even more stunned, because he was the attending physician in ward 2114!
It was bad enough that Adam stole his surgery, but now even Liz dares to steal his patients. This is intolerable!
