The richly layered conversation continued.
"Addison, you're not seriously going through with this, are you?"
Nancy Shepherd gave Dr. Montgomery a strange look. "You don't really think Mark came here just for you, do you? He slept with his tennis partner's wife, and apparently that partner went to buy a gun. That's why he came here to hide from the danger."
"Is that so?"
Dr. Montgomery said blandly, "If that was his plan, then all I can do is mourn for him.
"In Boston, he slept with someone's wife, knew the man had gone to buy a gun, and still had time to hide and run.
"In New York, he slept with someone's wife, and before he even realized he'd been exposed, the husband would come straight for him with a gun and blow his manhood to pieces.
"Nancy, you're a doctor too. Don't tell me you've forgotten the tragedy at the Medical Center last year?"

Nancy had no reply.
She was an experienced woman herself, so she had no particular dislike for men like Mark.
