Medical Center.
Adam got a call from MAX and instantly slipped into full drama-queen mode.
As for why?
Even Adam did not know.
Sometimes, he just got inexplicably happy and felt like showing off his acting skills.
Maybe that was life.
"Adam, do you remember Caroline Channing?"
MAX said from the other end of the line.
"Caroline Channing?"
Adam sounded very confused and paused for a few seconds. "Oh, you mean the eldest daughter of the Channing family?"
"..."
MAX curled her lip on the other end of the line.
She knew Adam too well. Naturally, she knew what sort of routine he liked, so she did not expose him just yet.
"Yes, that's her."
"What happened to her?"
Adam asked in blank ignorance.
"Her father scammed all of New York out of their money and got arrested."
As always, MAX fought the urge to roll her eyes and played along with Adam. "Caroline has nothing now. She went to her boyfriend—oh, ex-boyfriend now—and her five best friends, but not one of them was willing to help her. When she was helplessly hiding in a corner and crying, I happened to run into her."
"And then?"
Adam asked in shock. "Don't tell me you brought her home?"
Then his tone turned helpless. "Sigh, of course you did. You're just such a big softie. Whenever you see a stray cat or dog, you have to worry about how it'll live afterward, much less a living, breathing person."
His expression and tone were exactly like Penny's exaggerated helplessness whenever she clashed with Sheldon over his sacred Saturday laundry night: I know tonight is your immovable laundry night, and you know it can only be tonight, and if you don't do it, you'll feel uncomfortable all over—but all the washing machines are occupied
