Background
Dao Qiongchang pursued the Heavenly Secrets Dao while refusing to confine himself to a single path. He investigated the creation of life from dead objects through Heavenly Mechanism Puppets and took a profound interest in Bei Huai’s life research. Unlike Bei Huai, however, he retained personal limits and eventually redirected much of his effort toward Spirit Refining Realm affairs after his research was forbidden. 1962
He attained recognition from his clan at the cost of losing the right to continue research openly, ultimately becoming the Dao Hall Master. This history left him outwardly flamboyant and eccentric, yet unusually restrained and calculating beneath the performance. 1549
His long-term cultivation differs from Nuozu’s path of cultivating the self. Dao Qiongchang instead relies upon other people, objects, spaces, and memories to define and anchor himself externally, developing the Way of Memory into his own route toward ancestorhood. 1899 1961
Appearance
Dao Qiongchang deliberately avoids a fixed public image, using disguises, Heavenly Secret Sprites, puppets, incarnations, and possessed bodies to obscure his true presence. His ordinary human appearance is that of a refined middle-aged man with fair skin, long black hair, and an upright, dignified bearing. 1420 1961
- Often wears white robes, a cloud-patterned belt, and a jade hairpin; he carries a wine gourd when visiting the Cao Clan Blacksmith Shop. 1420
- Frequently appears in a star-patterned robe, with a jade comb and bronze mirror used to arrange his long hair. 1961
- Has used feminine disguises, including the identity “Dai’er,” to infiltrate Cold Prison. 1700
- Can appear as the chubby Heavenly Secret Sprite Xiao Qi or replace himself with a puppet while remaining elsewhere. 1274 1437
Personality
Dao Qiongchang is a meticulous planner who treats information, reactions, and relationships as pieces of a larger calculation. He reads body language, anticipates questions, and uses prolonged conversation to identify what others value most. Water Ghost’s recommended countermeasure is simply not to converse with him or fall into his rhythm. 1408 1575
He presents this predatory intelligence through theatrical confidence, shameless banter, and deliberately bizarre behavior. His ostentation is also defensive: by making himself seem irrational, omniscient, or invincible, he conceals the conditions and limits of his techniques. 1660
Despite his manipulative habits, he is capable of sincere attachment. His guidance of Yu Zhiwen is described as paternal, and he repeatedly frames his connection with Xu Xiaoshou as friendship—though his definition of friendship is inseparable from reciprocity, usefulness, and mutual protection. 1569 1648 1812
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Secrets Art
Dao Qiongchang’s core art allows him to calculate heavenly secrets, inspect causal clues, predict threats, and deploy Heavenly Secrets formations.
- Uses the Heavenly Secrets Compass to identify the ominous nature of Rao Yaoyao’s Void Island operation and deduce Ba Zunan’s intended release of imprisoned Saint-level beings. 1009
- Evolved the Ten Epoch Holy Spirit Formation to saint level in three breaths, extending it across both East Heavenly King City and the Yunlun Mountain Range. 902
- Used the art to reconstruct a suspect’s probable appearance from limited evidence, leading Xi to identify the Flower-Red Bandit. 1418
- Can deploy techniques from the Heavenly Secrets Thirty-Six Forms, including Great Blessing, Great Scrutiny, Great Concealment, Great Stripping, Great Embroidery, and Great Retro-Tracing. 1588 1638
- His calculations are exceptionally broad but not infallible; Xu Xiaoshou’s explosive growth and the destructive power of Ancient Sword Saints have repeatedly exceeded his expectations. 1391 1443
Formation Mastery
He turns terrain, objects, and living beings into components of large-scale formations.
- Activated the Thirty-Three Heavens Star-Weaving Net Formation over Qingyuan Mountain, trapping multiple powerful cultivators and transforming the mountain’s flora, stones, and terrain into formation nodes. 1447
- Used Heaven-Controlling Dao to cover Qingyuan Mountain in Heavenly Secrets runes and suppress the destructive aftermath of sword intent. 1443
- Employed the Great Imprisonment Technique to seal spiritual essence and prevent Quan Sanqing from resisting the Nine-Death Lightning Tribulation. 1410
- Concealed White Robes and nearby cultivators from the tribulation’s detection through the Great Concealment Art. 1410
Way of Memory
Dao Qiongchang’s defining path is the Way of Memory, through which he anchors his existence in external memories, people, places, and objects.
- Can disperse imprints of intent across the world, making his “true body” extremely difficult to locate. 1812
- Uses memory-based reliance to connect with even inanimate objects and spaces, expanding his self-definition beyond living followers or puppets. 1961
- Altered Shennong’s memories using Xu Xiaoshou’s Immeasurable Silence Seed power. 1981
- Maintains a Second Brain capable of countering Xu Xiaoshou’s Thought Deprivation. 1668
- His body once housed one trillion Heavenly Secret Brains; after Ba Zunan’s strike destroyed them, only a memory brand and Xiao Qi’s will remained. 2059
Great God Descent Technique
Great God Descent is Dao Qiongchang’s system of marking, transferring consciousness, possession, and loading his original body’s capabilities into a new host.
- Leaves “handshake” marks on potential vessels, including the Gold-Corroding Kui and Taizai Ci. 1572
- Possessed Cao Erzhu and subsequently loaded his own power into Erzhu’s body, combining Dao Qiongchang’s techniques with the host’s abilities. 1613 1614
- Uses physical-body “cards” to complete a descent, gaining the descended target’s abilities alongside his own. 1660
- Can weaponize prepared markings as traps; Heavenly Secrets runes on his body unleashed the Great Soul-Seizing Technique against the holy consciousness of several Demi-Saints. 1573
Six-Path Dao Qiongchang
Dao Qiongchang can shift into specialized combat modes by loading different paths and skill sets into himself or a host body.
- Sword Immortal Path — Revealed himself as a sword cultivator, manifested a sword, and formed a Sword Profundity Formation Diagram through the Firmament Scroll. 1602
- Three Venerable Firmaments — While possessing Cao Erzhu, combined Heavenly Secrets techniques, Ancient Martial Arts, and God-Punishing Execution Tribulation to overwhelm Sui Yin’s summoned ancient races. 1614
- Second Generation Dao Qiongchang — A more direct, combat-oriented version of himself that handles fighting while the Third Generation manages broader strategy and calculations. 1647
Equipment & Constructs
- Heavenly Secrets Compass — Primary divination and calculation tool. 1009
- Firmament Scroll — Supports Heavenly Secrets techniques and can manifest a Sword Profundity Formation Diagram. 1602
- Jade comb and bronze mirror — Personal items he carries while changing forms or restoring his appearance. 1961
- Heavenly Secret Sprite Xiao Qi — A chubby auxiliary sprite that assists, warns, interfaces with his systems, and can act independently. 1437 1614
- Heavenly Mechanism Puppets and Heavenly Secret Brains — The technological foundation of his information network, self-anchoring, and large-scale plans. 1961 2059
Relationships
- Xu Xiaoshou — Began as an opponent and target of investigation, but developed into an unstable ally and “friend.” Their cooperation is founded on mutual usefulness, frequent manipulation, and shared secrets. 1267 1575 2059
- Ba Zunan — Wary ally and fellow member of Xu Xiaoshou’s eventual three-person alliance; Ba Zunan leaves the decision of Dao Qiongchang’s fate to Xu Xiaoshou. 2059
- Yu Zhiwen — His disciple-like protégée. Dao Qiongchang personally arranged the Dao Department’s instruction and is described as showing genuine paternal concern for her. 1569 1868
- Dao Xuanji — His younger sister. Their sibling bond is complicated by his willingness to use her reputation and actions within his larger schemes. 1521 1702
- Xiao Qi — Heavenly Secret Sprite, assistant, and the final companion remaining with Dao Qiongchang after the destruction of his Heavenly Secret Brains. 1437 2059
- Cao Erzhu — Initially approached as a potential recruit and Heavenly Secrets Art student; later became a host for Dao Qiongchang’s possession and Six-Path modes. 1420 1613
- Yue Gongli — Formerly one of his closest companions, though their relationship became strained by Dao Qiongchang’s schemes and divergent choices. 1912
- Bai Zhou — A source of conflict: Dao Qiongchang seeks the Scale-White Witch’s abilities and the Voodoo Body within him. 1648
- Nangong Youshu — Friend and leader connected to the Heavenly Mechanism Divine Sect. 1569
- Bei Huai — Once regarded Dao Qiongchang as a kindred spirit in life research and allowed him access to his laboratory. 1962
Major Arcs
Yunlun Mountain Range and Void Island
Dao Qiongchang’s influence becomes publicly apparent when he creates a saint-level Heavenly Secrets Formation in three breaths, affecting two vast regions and forcing countless cultivators into enlightenment. 902
Using the Heavenly Secrets Compass, he identifies that the Solitary Sound Cliff operation is not a hunt but a sacrifice intended to open a Void Gate and break Void Island’s inner seal. 1009
First Hall of Sin and Qingyuan Mountain
Dao Qiongchang confronts Xu Xiaoshou directly on Void Island, quickly recognizing that Xu’s abnormal growth rate may eventually exceed even Ba Zunan’s. 1267
At Qingyuan Mountain, he uses psychological warfare against Aunt Xiang, exposes hidden connections to the Ran Ming Ruins, and eventually traps the mountain under the Thirty-Three Heavens Star-Weaving Net Formation. 1408 1447
He suppresses Mei Suren, Cao Erzhu, and Xu Xiaoshou’s incarnation, then pursues Xu Xiaoshou into the Origin Mansion World rather than allowing the conflict to end. 1456
Relics of the Gods
After Xu Xiaoshou destroys his possessing soul in the Gold-Corroding Kui, Dao Qiongchang proposes cooperation rather than continued open hostility. Xu Xiaoshou agrees to use his divination and calculation abilities within the Relics of the Gods. 1572 1575
He reveals Sword Immortal and Three Venerable Firmaments modes, possesses Cao Erzhu, and battles against the Saint-Infant Bearing Plant, Sui Yin, and other enemies alongside Xu Xiaoshou’s forces. 1602 1614 1619
Way of Memory and Ancestorhood
Dao Qiongchang reveals that his ultimate goal is not merely power but the position of sole Dao Ancestor. His method is to consolidate an externally anchored self through memories, puppets, identities, and the impressions he leaves across the Five Domains. 1899 1961
After confirming his Extreme Realm cultivation, he alters Shennong’s memories and releases power that reaches the Ancestor God level. 1961 1981
Following the destruction of his Heavenly Secret Brains, Xu Xiaoshou and Ba Zunan spare him. Dao Qiongchang agrees to cultivate Ancient Sword Arts, while securing freedom, future aid, and secrecy for their three-person alliance. 2059
