History

Founding and early development

Lu Changsheng founded the family after leaving the Danyang Sect as an unsuccessful outer disciple. He settled in Qingfeng Commandery, married female cultivators, and established a cultivation clan whose bonds were based on bloodline rather than master-disciple ties 5 166.

The clan endured repeated rises and collapses. Its ancestral land was breached at least once before the main story, leaving only a few survivors to rebuild; at other points it possessed three Purple Mansion Ancestors 5. Its long-term survival depended on Spirit Fields, Spirit Rice, medicine gardens, pills, Spirit Beasts, markets, and careful cultivation of later generations rather than constant warfare 3 155.

Before the destruction of Ziyang Mountain, the family had more than 1,500 cultivators. Most possessed Five or Quadruple Spirit Roots, while over fifty had Triple Spirit Roots; it had no known Dual Spirit Root cultivators at that time 3.

Ziyang Mountain catastrophe

The Lu Family became a dominant force in Qingshui Commandery by competing for mineral veins, Spirit Fields, and other resources. These conflicts created numerous enemies among rogue cultivators and rival families, while opponents accused the clan of monopolistic practices and abusing its Purple Mansion backing 10 22.

Ancestor Yan Yang and allied cultivators breached Ziyang Mountain after exploiting the family’s weakened position. More than 500 Lu cultivators were reported killed, including seven Foundation Establishment cultivators and a large share of its late-Qi Refining elites 24. The attackers plundered its treasury, rice stores, medicine gardens, and other assets, while deliberately preserving some fields and Spirit Veins to delay arriving reinforcements 24 25.

Patriarch Lu Tianming ordered surviving clansmen to scatter rather than perish with the mountain 24. The Danyang Sect eventually drove Yan Yang from Chu Kingdom, but the family was left with fewer than four Foundation Establishment cultivators and could not safely retain its former holdings 25 35.

Reconstruction at Changyuan Mountain

The surviving elders rebuilt at Changyuan Mountain. To secure peace, the family ceded markets, mineral resources, Spirit Veins, and other interests to stronger factions; it also relied on marriage ties with the Ye and Wu Families and on Danyang Sect rules limiting open suppression 35 36 96.

Great Elder Lu Tianyi adopted a deterrence-based policy during this period. Although weakened, the family used Purple Mansion Artifact Talismans and threats of retaliation to discourage opportunistic attacks 38. Lu Xuanji’s Foundation Establishment breakthrough and the later return of Purple Mansion cultivators gradually restored its standing 40 44 106.

Rise under Lu Xuanji

Under Patriarch Lu Xuanji, the Lu Family expanded after Beast Tides destroyed rival cultivation families and left assets available for seizure or division 151 155. Its return to prominence was supported by:

• Ancestor Jin — provided two Foundation Establishment Pills and protection, in exchange for future repayment after the family produced a Purple Mansion cultivator 40.
• The Ye Family alliance — intermarriage and later Lu Xuanji’s marriage to Ye Wanyi improved the family’s political environment and resources 97 122 598.
• Cultivation resources — the maturation of Jade Marrow Mushrooms created a more stable supply of Foundation Establishment Pill materials 274.
• Professional cultivation arts — the family emphasized high-grade pills, Spirit Medicine, artifacts, and other high-value goods as more profitable than basic production 123.

By the time Lu Xuanji reviewed its affairs, the family governed ten million mortals, held eight Spirit Mountains, and maintained more than 200 Foundation Establishment cultivators 273. It later became a Golden Core family, then a Nascent Soul family whose commercial network sold Spirit Medicine, pills, and weapons across many markets 309 420.

Later crises and expansion

The clan was destroyed again when enemies breached its mountain gate and defensive formations despite its Golden Core defenders and layered arrays 455 459. Its deeper population base and powerful ancestors allowed it to recover rapidly, however, and it returned to peak strength in less than a century 598.

As its population outgrew local resources, the family chose division over aggressive war against nearby powers. Golden Core and Nascent Soul descendants established branches in Chu, Wu, Yue, Qi, Yan, and Zhao Kingdoms; Lu Xian founded the Wu Kingdom branch, while Lu Fan established the Yue Kingdom branch 525. These branches reduced resource pressure and ensured that the Lu bloodline could survive even if the main line were destroyed 508 525.

By the later era, the Lu Family had become a ruling force in Chu Kingdom. Its rapid growth also produced internal competition, as its many Spirit Transformation cultivators sought authority previously concentrated in Lu Xuanji’s hands 590 598.

Organization and Governance

• Patriarch — manages the family’s administration, resources, appointments, external policy, and major military decisions. Lu Xuanji eventually abdicated this position to Lu Fan and became Grand Elder 424.
• Grand Elders — Purple Mansion cultivators are automatically promoted to Grand Elder. They receive a Rank 3 cave dwelling, annual compensation, access to major loans, and fewer routine responsibilities so they can focus on cultivation 277.
• Specialized elders — the family maintains Law Enforcement, Merit, Artificer, Pill Hall, and other administrative offices that report finances, personnel, and cultivation progress to the Patriarch 273.
