Background / History

The cult operated covertly long before its ambitions became public. Its agents used infiltration, impersonation, and coercion to destabilize local powers; Chu Yan infiltrated Heavenly Dance City by replacing Liu Dafu, while Pei Wuji impersonated Jiang Divine Saber and seized control of Divine Blade Hall from within 71 85.

Three years before the events of Chapter 85, Pei Wuji sought the Weeping God Iron, one of the Nine Treasures of Heaven and Earth. He eventually acquired it and forged the Chaos God Saber, while using Divine Blade Hall and Yin Feng Stockade for hidden operations, including blood-fed seeds and other atrocities 85.

The cult later turned Heavenly Secrets Valley into a trap for martial artists. It concealed the Heavenly Demon Robe there, deployed Yellow Springs Powder, maintained Puppet Corpses, and stationed the Soul-Seizing Guard, Soul-Chasing Guard, and Grave King in the valley 128 138 142. The valley operation collapsed after Chu Qing infiltrated the Heavenly Secrets Tower and the surviving cult disciples were wiped out 148.

As its secrecy eroded, the cult expanded through the Northern Ridge and other regions. It framed rival factions, coerced sects into submission, and used promises of status and prosperity to recruit those willing to serve 318 330 378. Its forces openly confronted the Northern Ridge martial arts world at Immortal Cloud Mountain, where the Weapon Master Heavenly Kill and the Opera King led a disciplined cult formation against Chu Qing's alliance 403 404.

The cult's later campaigns became increasingly military in scale. Its Weapon Masters commanded regional armies, while the Earth Butcher Weapon Master led an invasion of the Southern Region 362 515. The cult also assembled an estimated force of at least two hundred thousand members, surrendered factions, and affiliated gangs for the campaign against Xiangnan City 561.

Its final collapse began after Chu Qing repeatedly destroyed its hidden bases and senior members. The Cult Master was ultimately defeated and absorbed into Chu Qing's Maha Infinite, after which Chu Qing's forces captured the cult's palace headquarters at Heavenly Pass Ridge three months later 612 614.

Origins

The cult's connection to the destroyed Great Qian Dynasty was initially revealed through the Buddha King, who claimed to be a Great Qian prince and identified the Cult Master as the dynasty's emperor 483.

Chu Qing later concluded that the cult's organization resembled an imperial system: the Twelve Sacred Kings functioned like imperial princes and nobles, the Weapon Masters like grand marshals, and the Literary Heart Pavilion like a six-ministry bureaucracy 483 521. This supports the possibility that the cult was composed of Great Qian royal descendants seeking to restore their former rule, though its intended public restoration was kept hidden while it consolidated power 483.
