It was still early. It was spring, and there was more than an hour until sunset this Friday, so Shade took a carriage to the Public Cemetery in Green Lake City. The public cemetery of this ancient city had an equally long history, and Shade had come only to find a new grave from half a year ago.
The grave of the former grave robber, Hader Ferrero, stood miserably in a corner of the cemetery, crowded together with the graves of other impoverished people. No one had visited in a long time, judging from the wild grass that had grown this spring and tangled around the grave, as well as the dust covering the headstone.
Strictly speaking, nighttime was the best time for grave robbing, but Shade had no time to wait for nightfall. After making sure no one was nearby and that the choking Great Fog could conceal his actions, he cast an illusion over the area and skillfully took out a shovel to begin digging.
He and Megan had already practiced this skill on the island.
The digging went smoothly because the coffin had not been buried very deep. The moment he saw that shabby wooden coffin, Shade knew he had found the right place. He sensed the Spirit and Elements unique to the power of the Deathbringer Angel.
Where the power of the Deathbringer Angel existed, there was no need to worry about undead. Thus, Shade calmly pried open the former grave robber's coffin and found the bone fragment stored in a box amid the meager burial objects around the rotting corpse, such as metal cups.
The pristine white bone fragment was roughly a quarter the size of Shade's palm. But the power contained within it was far inferior to the other remains of the Deathbringer Angel
