Shade nodded in understanding and did not ask further questions. Mr. Bernhardt then asked Captain Rudolf about several other matters, including Blood of Sorrow. Captain Rudolf answered almost every question without holding anything back, as though they were merely chatting.
Naturally, he knew nothing about Blood of Sorrow's affairs in the area:
"Perhaps to you, the members of our Same Race here seem quite bold, willing to do anything. But compared to the humans of this city, we have merely adapted to the times.
"Wealth City did not accumulate so much wealth through honest labor alone. Since humans can act boldly, naturally the members of our Same Race living here can do the same. After all, this is the age of humans. Bloodkin can only go with the flow."
The captain used those words as his conclusion. Both Shade and Mr. Bernhardt understood what he meant.
Once Mr. Bernhardt indicated that he had finished asking everything and wished to thank him, the burly Bloodkin instead laughed:
"Gentlemen, since I've helped you so much, how about helping me in return?"
"What do you need?"
Mr. Bernhardt asked. Shade, meanwhile, seemed to sense something and looked towards the stairway leading down to their current underground level.
"Besides you two, another troublesome group is coming to visit me. Help me stop them. Members of our Same Race might still be trustworthy, but those humans connected to the New Continent are far too dangerous."
As he spoke, he tilted his head to signal for Bernhardt to look behind him:
"Look, they've arrived just in time."
Thus, Mr. Bernhardt and Shade saw John Flynn, wielder of the Wind King Sword from the New Continent Mutual Aid Society, descend the stairs with his companion who used a Spiked Hammer.
Captain Rudolf rose from across the table.
