A star chart floated across a gigantic, translucent page, as though this book contained the entire starry sky of the Silver Moon Library. Of course, there was now nothing on it but the stars.
"I can control who gets to see this book. By default, only I can see it."
Shade explained softly. After looking at Daniste, his gaze shifted to the top of her head.
Administrator Miss asked in confusion:
"So what does this thaumaturgy do? Is there something above my head?"
She had noticed Shade's gaze and raised her head to look, but naturally saw nothing.
Shade explained:
"In my eyes, there's a glowing white symbol floating above your head. It's shaped like a human."
He then turned to the yawning cat. Noticing Shade looking at her, Little Mia immediately shut her mouth.
"There's a cat symbol above Little Mia's head. So Little Mia really is a cat."
"What else could she be if not a cat? In that case, go look out the window."
Though it was already late at night, there were still a few pedestrians on Saint Derain Square outside the window at a little past eight. Shade stood by the window for a while before reporting his findings:
"Everyone passing by has the same human symbol above their heads as you. Someone was walking a dog just now, and I saw a dog symbol over its head. Beside the birds flying through the air, bird-shaped symbols appeared."
Shade summarized the first function of the thaumaturgy—Fate Manual:
"I can freely inspect the approximate race of any living creature I see. For example, although you have elven blood, you lean more toward being human, so I see a human symbol. Because of certain things in my past, I could already use a similar method to identify
