But Shade did not immediately take out the five items he had prepared. Instead, he rummaged in his pocket for Little Mia's doll and used a handkerchief to restore it to its true feline form.

The cat crouching in Shade's palm raised its head to bask in the firelight, letting out a gentle cry before curiously widening its amber eyes to inspect its surroundings.
This truly relieved Shade. He had risked bringing Little Mia into the Land of Death. Though Mia had been in toy form, Shade had still worried that the cat might be affected. It now seemed his concerns had been unnecessary.
Carefully setting Mia on the ground, Shade found that the timid cat indeed did not dare run around. Instead, it lay beside his leg and cautiously observed everything around it.
