The Kind of Good Person Who Takes Responsibility
You can get a sense of a person's character in a certain way just by observing how they eat.
For example, the Mayor in front of me handles his knife and fork very simply, quickly, and forcefully. He cuts a piece of beef off the steak in two or three strokes, spreads some sauce on it, puts it in his mouth, and swallows it quickly.
In reality, some people have more detailed requirements; they will make more cuts and the whole process will be longer.
One theory suggests that cutting food too quickly and roughly with Table Knife can cause the food's fibers to become misaligned and altered, thus affecting its texture.
Such people are more emotional and pursue more idealistic things, while people like Your Mayor are representatives of pragmatism, and efficiency, value and results are what they pursue.
While Lin Qi was secretly observing, the Mayor put down his knife and fork, picked up a napkin, dabbed his lips, and took a small sip of red wine. "Continuing our conversation, what do you think we should do to change the current situation?"
They had previously discussed isolationism and major international changes. Lin Qi's mature perspective made it easy to forget that he was only twenty years old, and his attire made him look like he was twenty-four or twenty-five.
Even so, he is still a young man on the political path. Many politicians are still working as office interns for others when they are 24 or 25 years old. They don't even understand the domestic situation, let alone the international situation.
The more the Mayor chatted with Lin Qi, the more curious he became about what other interesting things he would say. He was really looking forward to it! Lin Qi also put down his knife and fork at the right time. He dipped the sauce on his lips, thought for a moment, and then began to answer, "I think if our Progressive Party can win the next term, we should first participate more in the construction of the International Community and give full play to our advantages. The Bayer Federation may not be the most technologically advanced country, but it is definitely among the top. There are many countries that need our help!"
The Mayor nodded noncommittally. "But have you considered this question: why should they accept us? Why should the International Community accept us?" This is also a question that some Radical Faction in the Bayer Federation Society are currently pondering.
Previously, the Bayer Federation had closed its doors due to the Conservative Party, but now it has suddenly reopened and wants to participate in International Community activities and play an important role. Why should others include you in their activities and let you be a leader? The Progressive Party leadership has also discussed many countermeasures and has a series of plans. Whether they can be implemented and whether they can succeed remains to be seen, but in general, having concrete methods is reassuring.
The Mayor was aware of this as well; he raised the question simply to see if Lin Qi's ideas were the same as those of the Progressive Party leadership.
Lin Qi smiled slightly. "Responsibility, Your Mayor. If we take on more International Community responsibility and let more countries recognize that the Bayer Federation is a country willing to assume more international responsibility, then we will be able to have more say."
The Mayor nodded noncommittally. He pondered Lin Qi's words and their implied meaning for a moment, then asked with a wider smile, "So, where do you think we should begin to shoulder these responsibilities?"
"It starts with international humanitarian aid!"
This was destined to be a very meaningful lunch. First of all, the Mayor and Lin Qi reached a high degree of consensus on certain aspects, laying a solid foundation for the mayor's great achievements in the future.
Secondly, Lin Qi's remarks during the meal about the relationship between the Bayer Federation and the International Community also greatly inspired the mayor. He will organize these materials and send them to the senior members of the Progressive Party so that they can hold a meeting to discuss whether they are valuable and whether the Progressive Party can use them.
If it can be put to use, this will also be his political achievement. Whether it is that he has brought in a talent for the Progressive Party or that he has selflessly contributed these contents, he has made a contribution to the entire Progressive Party.
If it's not needed, it's not a mistake. As long as you don't publicly express opinions that are detrimental to the Progressive Party, no one will think that speaking is a fault.
In short, after this meal, things were about to change, and Lin Qi also gained another identity—a member of the Progressive Party.
On the way back, Ferral drove while glancing at Lin Qi in the back seat through the rearview mirror, his expression somewhat strange.
As they were leaving, the Mayor specifically instructed him to drive Lin Qi back. This kind of treatment was rare, only enjoyed by important figures or guests. He hadn't expected Lin Qi, at such a young age, to receive it.
Some jealousy followed, but it quickly dissipated. As long as he maintained a proper friendship with Lin Qi, he would have the opportunity to be nominated to run for mayor of Sabine City after the mayor was promoted.
Once he embarks on this path, he will inevitably need some financial backers to support him; a candidate without money will always remain just a candidate.
Thinking of this, he cleared his throat and asked, "Are there any difficulties that need to be resolved in this auction?" He also thoughtfully added, "For example, the venue?"
Although the Warehouse District has enough open space, the environment is still somewhat poor. If this matter is not related to His Mayor, then no one would say anything even if he held it in the toilet.
However, given that the mayor is pushing for this event, holding it on an empty lot in the Warehouse District would be somewhat inappropriate.
Lin Qi nodded and continued, "I do have some new ideas. I'd like to use the stadium in Sabine City, but the procedures might be a bit complicated."
Specialized venues are used for specific purposes. The stadium in Sabine City was not funded by regular government appropriations. The State Government believed that Sabine City did not need a good stadium because there were no professional sports teams in the area.
Without professional sports teams, there is no need for a professional stadium. However, the City Hall clearly had other ideas, and with the fundraising efforts of some capitalists and the general public, the stadium was eventually built.
A few years ago, a local businessman once formed a Rugby team, but it fell through for many other reasons. The stadium then became a place for ordinary people to relax and unwind, and it was in a semi-abandoned state. The grass hadn't been replaced for more than a year.
Even so, if the stadium were to be repurposed, even for just half a day or a day, there would be many obstacles, and it would be impossible for an individual to obtain the necessary permits.
Ferral thought about it for a moment after hearing this, "That place is indeed a good place, but you will need to... pay a price to shut some people up."
Lin Qi nodded. "You know, money is not a problem for me."
Ferral smiled in a seemingly ingratiating way and said, "Then there's no problem!"
If the auction itself caused a stir in the Sabine City and even the entire state due to the sheer volume of sales, then Lin Qi's profit sharing with his sales staff became the second trigger.
According to reports from some evening newspapers, someone actually received a share of 8,000 yuan. This news exploded like a bomb in this era of economic downturn.
In an instant, Lin Qi's Office phone was ringing off the hook. Many people were asking about the requirements to become a salesperson for the company. In their view, becoming a salesperson for Interstellar Trade Company meant they could make money while lying down!
