It was past 11 p. m. when Gepu returned from the company, exhausted. During that time, he had been dealing with some traces of the company's transactions with Heng Hui Group in the company's accounts.

Some things aren't on the ledger, but money has been added in; some things are on the ledger, but the numbers aren't quite right. This isn't just one bad ledger, it's a whole bunch of bad ledgers.

It was through this period of arduous work that he suddenly gained a vague understanding of some things.

The fact that Heng Hui Group, a company of similar or even larger size than the Listoan Group where he worked, suddenly fell into trouble is definitely not as simple as tax evasion. It may be related to Heng Hui's involvement with foreign capital.

Gepu wasn't quite sure where this feeling came from. While dealing with the company's problems, he was also closely following the news of the Heng Hui Group scandal. From his perspective, there was actually nothing wrong with Heng Hui.

"Maybe I shouldn't think so much..." he said to himself as he drove his vehicle from the main road into the community entrance.

These major cases are too far removed from him. He can't do anything about them, let alone influence or interfere with them. His concern about this case is simply out of curiosity.

Gepu's car was registered with the community. When his car approached the guard post, the security guard on duty immediately raised the barrier for him. Gepu managed a smile and said thank you.

Sometimes, politeness doesn't stem from personal character traits like upbringing, but rather from maintaining a more positive image. This can be seen as a kind of adult hypocrisy, or as knowledge that's necessary for entering society.

For Gepu and many others like him, a simple thank you is enough to improve their image.

Just as he was about to step on the gas and drive the car into the community road, the security guard seemed to hesitate and had a strange expression.

People who do numerical work are very meticulous; someone who isn't meticulous can't do this kind of work. Gepu's brow twitched slightly, and he put his foot back on the accelerator pedal. "Is there something you want to tell me?"

The security guard hadn't originally intended to meddle, but Gepu's politeness and "respect" made it hard for him not to say something, yet he also felt it was inappropriate.

His conflicted look puzzled Gepu even more. "If there's anything, please tell me. Maybe it's important to me?" He used "please," which showed his seriousness.

The security guard sighed with a wry smile and said, "I shouldn't have meddled, Mr. Gepu, but..." He shook his head, though who knows what he meant by that, "Madame Vera came back tonight in a young man's car, and he was very handsome..."

At this point, the security guard spoke his mind and stopped, as such things are strictly prohibited.

Whether it's a mid-range or high-end community, the supporting service companies do not allow their employees to disclose or communicate anything related to the homeowners.

Every year there are many lawsuits surrounding privacy. Every employee receives professional training before starting work, but Gepu disguised himself well. The security guard on duty today also had the naivety that most people at the bottom of society still retain. He said things he shouldn't have said.

Gepu's face immediately turned ugly. He forced a smile and tossed a pack of cigarettes out the window. "Thanks, I had someone bring her back."

The security guard breathed a sigh of relief. "Is that so? That's good. I almost thought..." he said, sounding a little embarrassed, completely unaware of Gepu's dark, almost blending-into-the-surround-dark face.

After parking his car, he opened the door with a gloomy expression. He never thought there would be any problems with his marriage.

He is young, handsome, has a job that everyone envies, substantial assets, and is about to become Junior Partner in the Listoan Group.

Although he is only Junior Partner, he has already surpassed the vast majority of people. He has stepped onto a higher level, and no woman will leave him, just like those cheap girls in the company.

But he is very angry now. A pet that he considers an important part of his life, an ornament to enhance his social integrity, has actually given rise to some unpleasant thoughts in him.

No chauvinist could tolerate this! He pushed open the door to the guest room; they were still in a cold war and sleeping in separate rooms.

Vera was still awake. She had her bedside lamp on and was reading a book about management, one that Gepu had bought before.

Women who have been drinking tend to become more emotional and impulsive, sometimes even recklessly doing things on a whim. They might read a book while slightly tipsy... Is it really effective? Probably not, but they'll try to convince themselves of their "effort"!

The moment the door opened Gepu looked at Vera, and Vera met Gepu gaze. They stared at each other for a moment, and then Gepu suddenly said, "You drank tonight?"

Vera put down her book. "What's it to you?"

Gepu was somewhat annoyed. He was working hard outside, while this woman was fooling around with other men at night. He had been suppressing his emotions, but some of them still leaked out.

His voice was filled with a strange, hurt hoarseness, "You betrayed me!"

Vera's face showed a hint of displeasure. "I was just talking to a friend about work, and there's no mark on my butt!"

One sentence instantly calmed Gepu down. That day was the biggest humiliation of his life. He also found a reason to kick that cheap woman who left a few lip prints on his butt out of the company.

It's okay to have some little quirks in the office, but you shouldn't bring things that are only meant to be in the office home, whether you bring them home yourself or have someone else bring them home. That's against the rules.

Given that Vera clearly still under the influence of alcohol, arguing would only make the neighbors laugh and the whole community would know what happened first thing tomorrow morning, so he wisely chose to keep quiet.

He pointed at Vera, "You'd better remember you're married!"

Vera retorted without backing down, "Do you think you've remembered it?"

Gepu felt like his head was about to explode. Where had his gentle and obedient wife gone?

He turned around and slammed the door shut. He took off his clothes and went to the bathroom; he needed to take a shower to calm himself down.

He saw Vera's changed clothes in the bathroom. After some meticulous investigation and deduction, he breathed a sigh of relief; at least Vera hadn't betrayed him.

He had barely relaxed for a minute when he became unhappy again. This woman had actually learned to talk back. It seemed that his pampering of her over the years had made her mistakenly believe that it was indulgence. He would have a serious talk with her after this period was over.

Gepu drove away early the next morning; he had a lot of accounts to deal with and didn't have time to waste at home.

Vera woke up a little after nine in the morning. The wine she had drunk had given her a very good sleep. After taking a shower, she went into her study to find some books related to management to read.

Lin Qi trusted her so much, and she should try her best to repay that trust.

Just as she picked out a few books and was about to leave, she suddenly noticed several ledgers on Gepu's desk. Any accountant would hate these, but also be sensitive to them, because that's their job.

Vera hesitated for a moment, then walked over and took a look. It was an original copy, and at the bottom of the ledger, a line of small print was clearly printed: "Listoan Corporation (Group) Special Ledger"...

At the same time, the security guard who had just finished his early shift was preparing to go back to his dormitory to sleep when the duty manager walked up to him with a stern face and casually tore off the community work ID card pasted on his chest. "You're fired..."

Some people say that stories need to be so coincidental, isn't there a saying that "no story is without coincidences"?

Of course, the essence of reading stories is still for enjoyment. Yes, I'm laying it all out: if you think so, then this is a "feel-good" story, and whatever makes you happy!
