Background

Gefra was an imperial state whose political system was widely characterized in the Federal as dictatorial and feudal, although this image was also used to contrast Federal ideals of freedom with Gefra’s monarchy 281. Its education system cultivated intense loyalty to the Emperor, treating him as the nation’s central symbol and associating freedom with laxity and indiscipline 597.

As an island country with limited territory, resources, and strategic depth, Gefra sought continental influence through control of the Amelia Region. Its leadership viewed Amelia as the starting point of its “continental Dream” and a necessary buffer against encirclement or invasion 372 1616. This expansionist outlook made Gefra unpopular among both hostile states and nominal allies, who feared the emergence of a single dominant superpower 372.

At its height, Gefra was the world’s foremost naval power. Its Royal Navy enabled overseas influence, protected its allies, and extracted logistical support from them, but the country’s Army remained comparatively neglected and ineffective in sustained land warfare 388 618. Military

Royal Navy

Gefra’s Royal Navy was long regarded as its greatest national strength and the true pride of its people. The country relied heavily on fleet power for deterrence, overseas operations, and influence over coastal states 587 388.

• Gefra’s naval doctrine and national confidence were badly shaken after the Federal defeated the First Fleet, exposing its limited understanding of Federal warship capabilities 386 392.
• The Navy deployed Anti-Aircraft Ships—small vessels with limited offensive power but intended to defend fleets from aircraft—in the later war against Peng Joe 1576.

History

Naval Decline and the Amelia Crisis

Gefra’s efforts to secure Amelia were undermined by resistance, sabotage, and growing Federal involvement. The destruction of an Amelia power plant and copper mine directly challenged Gefra’s rule, prompting the Emperor to dispatch the Triumph Princess and escort ships as a show of force 384.

Lin Qi publicly predicted that Gefra’s ambition to become a superpower would provoke international opposition. He argued that its small territory, weak land forces, and dependence on naval power made Amelia indispensable to its strategic depth 372.

The subsequent naval confrontation with the Federal dealt a major blow to Gefra’s prestige. Its government initially denied that a battle or defeat had occurred, but its position in the international order visibly weakened after the loss of the First Fleet 392 767.

Political Restructuring

As Gefra’s military and financial position deteriorated, the Prime Minister became increasingly influential. The Imperial Family was gradually reduced to a symbolic role, while the Prime Minister emerged as the country’s effective leader 1533.

The Prime Minister’s government pursued military exercises, technological exchange, and military reform, while also attempting to stabilize Amelia and contain Federal influence 678 1533. War with Peng Joe

Gefra’s conflict with Peng Joe escalated from the struggle over Amelia. Peng Joe and Amelia-aligned forces attacked Gefra-held territory, while Gefra relied on defensive lines, Federal equipment, and international loans to resist 1547 1560 1681.

Gefra’s limited resources made a prolonged war unsustainable. Its leaders recognized that the country had fallen behind both the Federal and Peng Joe in military and technological development, leading them to consider concessions over Amelia in exchange for preserving Gefra’s international standing 1616.

The retreat from the Iron Bucket Defense Line caused severe losses. The Victory Transfer operation cost Gefra 64,000 soldiers, 1,100 War Machines, 479 airplanes, and over one billion Federal Sols; deaths during the mountain withdrawal exceeded 90,000 soldiers 1740. Occupation and Exile

After Peng Joe took control of Gefra Main Island, food and water became scarce, wealth was looted, and scientists and specialists were seized for transfer to Peng Joe. Blackstone Security infiltrators monitored the occupation and reported on the removal of Gefra’s resources 1854.

The occupied government was forced into a twenty-nine-article treaty that stripped Gefra of technology, talent, wealth, and its Amelia lease. The Empress signed the document under duress using the Emperor’s seal 1850.

Despite its fall, Gefra retained international recognition through the Gefra Exiled Government. Federal forces remained in Gefra to pressure Peng Joe, and Gefra representatives participated in peace talks alongside the Federal and Peng Joe 2002.

Return and Reconstruction

Following three-party agreements, Gefra’s nobles and Exiled Government returned to the Main Island. Gefra retained its status as a Victorious Country and regained ownership of the Amelia Region, though its compensation was largely symbolic and its looted wealth was not expected to be returned 2061.

Reconstruction was complicated by wartime depopulation, infrastructure damage, food shortages, counterfeit Fula, labor disputes, and public distrust of Federal aid 2061 2153 2162.
