War (6)
The clan leaders issued commands, and heavy horns sounded.
"Kill!"
"Crush them!"
Smoke and dust billowed, and the earth shook.
The Half-goat Human played panpipes, performing a magical medley that fueled the monsters' frenzy, but the tune was "The Mass," taught to them by a bored Bard player.
Beneath this majestic and awe-inspiring melody, however, lies a group of menacing monsters charging towards humanity, a scene that carries a certain irony.
The Kobold and Goblin legions at the forefront swarmed forward, frantically attacking the "Eagle's Claw" spearmen's defensive line.
Behind the spearmen and shieldmen, hundreds of archers unleashed volley after volley of arrows, and before these dragon vein monsters could even charge forward, many had already suffered casualties.
But the Kobold and Goblin behind them stepped over them without hesitation, even trampling on the corpses of their comrades, and continued their relentless charge, undeterred by arrows.
But even if they charged right up to the spearmen, they would be easily killed by their spears.
Behind the cover provided by the Kobold and Goblin legions at the cost of their lives, a line formation of over three hundred Dragon Vein Hobgoblin goblins marched forward in silence, following the beat of the drums.
Under the rousing music, even if Hobgoblin in the group is shot down by an enemy arrow, the others will not hesitate to take its place.
Fortunately, most of the Hobgoblin were dressed in leather armor and often had scales for protection, so ordinary arrows could not easily kill them, and their losses during the journey were not significant.
When they were only fifty paces away from the spearmen and shieldmen, the Hobgoblin stopped and raised their spears.
"Fire!"
Dolo let out a frenzied roar.
"Bang!"
Gunfire roared, and acrid Gunsmoke filled the battlefield, obscuring visibility.
On the Allied front, the thin shields of the gunners were like paper against the powerful bullets, riddled with holes. Many soldiers in cloaks were also hit by bullets and fell backward.
The "Enemy Breaker Fire," modified by the magic of the Artificer, is far more powerful than the smoothbore muskets of history, and each shot creates a thick layer of smoke.
In this single volley, the "Eagle's Claw" Legion suffered heavy losses, with more than two hundred soldiers killed or wounded.
"Tempus Above"
"How could these monsters form such an army?"
Robert watched from behind, muttering to himself in disbelief.
His view was obstructed by the billowing Gunsmoke, preventing him from seeing the Hobgoblin Line Infantry clumsily loading ammunition. However, his seasoned experience allowed him to keenly guess that an attack of this magnitude would likely require a long period of preparation.
"North Wind Winged Cavalry, prepare to charge!"
The messenger quickly relayed the signal to the front lines.
The Winged Hussars wore heavy plate armor, carried lances bearing the Gray Eagle banner, and had wing-like decorations on their backs.
These wing ornaments are not merely decorative; when the North Wind Winged Cavalry charge, the wings on their backs will cut through the air with a whistling sound, startling the enemy's warhorses and putting immense psychological pressure on the enemy.
"They can't stop them."
Robert had great confidence in his cavalry.
This cavalry force has fought for many years, and countless enemies have fled in disarray and collapsed at the whistling of its wings.
"For His Majesty the Duke, charge!"
Smoke and dust billowed, and the earth trembled.
More than four hundred winged hussars galloped across the flat wasteland, their wing ornaments whistling, their hooves clattering on the ground with a dull thud.
"Wind Creation Spell!"
The allied spellcasters created gusts of wind to disperse the Gunsmoke.
However, as the Gunsmoke slowly dissipated, what greeted the cavalry was not only a line column regiment loading ammunition, but also a mountain of Terrestrial Dragon Beast.
"Roar--"
The Terrestrial Dragon Beast let out deep roars, and even the earth trembled with their footsteps.
Under the cover of these colossal creatures, the Winged Hussars looked up in bewilderment, their once spirited faces now showing expressions of terror.
These battle-hardened warhorses instinctively let out terrified neighs, even causing the riders on their backs to fall off.
But they had already charged within thirty paces and were unable to stop.
They had no choice but to bite the bullet and charge forward.
"Roar!"
With a roar, the Terrestrial Dragon Beast charged headlong into the cavalry's tight formation.
In a single exchange, several cavalrymen were easily crushed by his claws, turning into a pool of indistinct flesh and blood.
Many more cavalrymen crashed uncontrollably into that massive body. However, even if their lances pierced the dragon beast's rough, thick skin, they couldn't penetrate it. They could only watch helplessly as the mountain-like dragon beast charged towards them, and then they were plunged into darkness.
Dolo could no longer suppress his bloodlust and came to the front lines himself.
This Dragon Vein Hobgoblin was three meters tall. Although it was not armored, its strong, muscular body was covered with hard scales that ordinary swords could not penetrate.
His hands gripped a massive, five-meter-long axe—the "Bloodfire Battle Axe."
This is a long-handled battle axe, its rough blade stained with blood. It is said that when it was completed, it took twelve Goblin to laboriously carry it to the military camp. But the powerful energy of the dragon vein allowed Dolo skill.
The current Dragon Vein Hobgoblin is a complete killing machine.
Dolo's eyes were bloodshot, and hot white smoke billowed from his nostrils as he easily leaped onto the dragon beast's back, wielding his giant axe.
"Roar--"
"I will crush you!"
With a whooshing sound, the Bloodfire Battle Axe drew a semi-circular arc in the air, its immense force cleaving a Winged Hussar in two at the waist.
But this was not the end. He continued to swing the axe, killing three more people in succession, leaving the axe soaked in still-warm, fresh blood.
"Very good. That's it."
Blood splattered onto the Hobgoblin face, but he licked it, savoring the metallic taste of blood mixed with rust.
"Go to hell!"
Dolo raised his battle axe high and cleaved the knight, horse and all, from head to toe, who was unable to dodge.
Wielding his giant axe, he was like a meat grinder, tirelessly and frantically reaping the lives of the surrounding cavalry. Wherever he went, there were severed limbs and mutilated bodies, causing the Winged Hussars to flee in all directions like lambs to the slaughter, trying to avoid this terrifying creature.
The line infantry had already loaded their ammunition and were firing freely at the cavalry. Although their accuracy against fast-moving targets was not high, they still managed to knock many cavalrymen off their horses.
"Tempus Above"
"These are a bunch of monsters."
Robert observed the chaotic battle, his expression gradually becoming serious, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
His prized winged cavalry were utterly no match for these unreasonable and brutal monsters.
Now, he needs to rethink his strategy.
