Slaughtering the City
As the Undead Shadow howled, the dark sky rapidly dissipated, and the distant black peaks gradually disappeared. All the Shadow Creature in Dragon Shadow City —the Shadow Gnawer, Shadow Displacer Beast, Shadow Spirit, and even Shadow Dragon— seemed to sense the death of their master, and they all let out fearful cries and panicked roars.
Mortifer, the "Night's Spokesperson" who had ruled the Underdark for seven hundred years, was now utterly dead.
Under the complete destruction of the Chaos Fire, even the Goddess of Night could not collect his soul, and he could only turn into chaotic and disordered matter.
"Roar--"
An excited roar rang out again.
Large amounts of saliva and flames flowed from Keosius's gaping maw. His face was incredibly ferocious, his eyes were still bloodshot, and his blood-red outline still covered his body.
"Not enough, still not enough."
"Slaughter. Destruction. Purification!"
The Red Dragon suddenly flapped its broad wings, stirring up a whirlwind that swept through the city, and its massive body rose into the sky.
He looked down at the tens of thousands of living beings in Dragon Shadow City, a cruel smile spreading across his face. Deep within his pupils burned Flames of Destruction that seemed never to be extinguished.
"Look! The Shadow Domain has disappeared."
Mortifer is dead!
Ferriton stared at the rapidly receding black sky, his expression agitated, and he became somewhat incoherent.
That Shadow Dragon cast a shadow over almost his entire life, destroying all his happiness. The oppressive feeling of endless darkness still suffocates him to this day.
Now that his enemy has been killed, although he didn't do it himself, the joy he felt was indescribable, and it even brought tears to his eyes.
He patted Daniael on the shoulder, seemingly inviting him to celebrate the "victory" together.
But the Drow Elf's expression remained solemn, and cold sweat even broke out on his forehead.
Ferriton noticed his companion's unusual behavior and was immediately puzzled.
"What's wrong, Daniael? Mortifer is dead. Isn't that something to celebrate?"
"Don't be too happy yet, Ferriton."
Daniael slowly raised his head, gazing up at the sky where the black mist had dissipated.
"I always feel that this is not over yet."
Thinking of that raging Red Dragon, Ferriton felt uneasy.
"That shouldn't be the case. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. As long as we identify ourselves as Rebel Army, he shouldn't make things difficult for us."
Suddenly, a fierce hurricane struck, making them lose their footing, and Ferriton instinctively raised his arm to shield himself.
"Ferriton, look up."
Daniael's voice trembled slightly as he stretched out a trembling arm and pointed to the sky.
Ferriton slowly raised his head and looked in the direction the Drow Elf was pointing, his expression suddenly changing.
"Roar--"
—The enormous Red Dragon reappeared in the sky, its broad wings casting huge shadows, its pale golden pupils filled with destructive lust, and a cruel smile appeared on its ferocious Dragon Face.
The powerful aura of the dragon descended, making all mortals within the city feel suffocated.
The dragon crystal on its chest emitted a dazzling light.
The Red Dragon slowly opened its blood-red maw.
Dark red flames cascaded down from it like a waterfall, descending upon the city.
The entire Dragon Shadow City was ablaze. Anything, whether stone buildings or flesh and blood, that was touched by the Chaos Fire could not escape destruction.
This is Kareks's World Cleansing Fire, a pure symbol of destruction and power.
Dark red flames spread through the city at an unimaginable speed, turning half the city into a sea of fire in an instant.
"No--"
"It's on fire!"
"It's coming! I don't want to die!"
Countless wailing and screams echoed from the sea of fire, but these sounds were extremely brief, disappearing almost instantly. Whether man, woman, or child, human, Drow Elf, or Gray Dwarf, any living being that came into contact with the dark red flames would be completely decomposed into utter chaos the moment it touched the flames.
Running away is useless, and resistance is also futile.
Keosius flapped his wings above the city, flying slowly along with the spreading flames, like a messenger of natural disaster and the embodiment of the World Cleansing Fire.
Ferriton watched the approaching flames, he jumped to a high point on the house and waved his hands toward the sky.
"We are the Rebel Army!"
"Lord Red Dragon, stop! We also have a grudge against that Shadow Dragon!"
Sweat dripped from his forehead as he shouted this.
The Drow Elf stiffly reached out and patted the human Fighter's shoulder, his voice pale. "Stop, Ferriton, it's no use."
Daniael, his face filled with despair, gazed at the dragon in the sky and muttered to himself:
"I've heard a story from the Elf history of the elves."
"That's a symbol of destruction."
"He is the Purification of the world."
However, before he could finish speaking, the Chaos Fire had already spread to this place, engulfing all the Drow Elf and humans.
Keosius spread his wings and soared through the sky, his expression indifferent, seemingly ignoring the shouts of the humans on the ground, or perhaps simply disdaining to pay them any attention.
All living beings in Dragon Shadow City, whether good or evil, and regardless of their faction, are merely recipients of the Red Dragon's destructive desires, a part of cold, hard numbers.
In the end, amidst the roar of flames, Dragon Shadow City, a city with over a thousand years of history, was reduced to ashes, leaving not even broken walls and ruins.
"Click-clack."
The scorched ground still bears traces of Chaos Fire, and the thick ashes are perhaps the only evidence of the city's existence. The prosperity of Dragon Shadow City's trade during the reign of the Drow Elf, the oppressive darkness during the reign of the Shadow Dragon, and the resistance of countless residents who gathered their strength have all vanished with the burning flames.
Keosius finally broke free from the "Bloodscale Rampage" state.
His ferocious Dragon Face still bore the bloody glow of slaughter and destruction, and his pale golden pupils surged with excitement.
The prompts on the panel kept refreshing in front of him.
[You killed [Night's Spokesperson - Mortifer (Challenge Rating: 21)], gaining 33000 XP][You killed [Shadow Dragon], gaining 10000 XP][You killed [Undead Shadow], gaining 800 XP][You killed [Shadow Spirit], gaining]...
[You killed the [Drow Elf], gaining 15 XP][You killed the [Human Merchant], gaining 5 XP] With just this one massacre, his experience is already close to the threshold for the next advancement.
As he gazed at those tempting numbers, a strange thought suddenly arose in Keosius's mind.
"If I were to kill all living beings in the Prime Material Plane, how much power would I gain?"
"Comparable to a god?"
"Or perhaps... surpassing the gods?"
Once the thought appeared, it flowed uncontrollably through his mind like a surging tide.
