The Baron's Banquet
Sigg Town.
At the Baron's Manor.
Todd Lachman crossed his arms, looking worried.
His attendant, Charlotte, Todd's newly hired butler, was patiently serving him and knew how to please the Baron.
Todd couldn't help but ask his attendant, "What should I do? Father has already sent word that the Allied Forces are very likely to choose Sigg Town as their camp. Once they discover that I'm colluding with the Ember Nest, then..."
Todd trembled uncontrollably at the thought of his father's bloodshot eyes.
The attendant simply said, "You must make a choice. You can choose to become a loyal servant of the dragon, or you can become... a hero of the family."
What should I do?
Todd grasped at this as if it were a lifeline.
The attendant said, "It's very simple. The first step is to get rid of Hart and report the situation here to the family."
Todd gritted his teeth and said, "Yes, yes, we must get rid of Hart, that scourge, that traitor! He's the one who brought this Red Dragon here. If it weren't for him, how would I be in this situation? That damned lackey!"
Perhaps having heard rumors of war, Hart has recently become increasingly vigilant in his surveillance of the Baron and has acted with growing arrogance, completely disregarding Baron Todd.
This greatly displeased the Baron, and his hatred for Hart grew even stronger. How dare this former slave trader, this lowly human who groveled at his feet, climb over him?
The attendant offered a timely suggestion. "Baron Excellency, perhaps you would like a banquet."
"Oh?"
"Hart is now very arrogant and no longer takes you seriously. He is convinced that you will not dare to attack him because of your fear of the Ember Nest. So you can invite him to the banquet and take this opportunity to eliminate him completely."
Baron Todd pondered for a moment, then slowly lowered his crossed hands.
"Okay, let's do it that way."
"I will show him who the real master of this place is."
A crimson light flickered deep within the Baron's pupils.
In the dimly lit hall, candlelight flickered.
The long table was laden with a sumptuous meal, and several soldiers stood guard nearby.
Hart and the Baron sat on opposite sides of the long table, with a servant Charlotte standing beside them.
Hart spoke first, laughing heartily, "Baron, did you call me here just to treat me to a sumptuous dinner? It seems that even someone as proud as you has learned how to please others."
Baron Todd forced a smile onto his pale face, "You're right, Hart."
He slowly got up, straightened his clothes, and then walked behind Hart.
The attendant followed closely behind.
Hart seemed oblivious to the danger, leaning back in his chair with a relaxed air, and said smugly, "What, my dear Baron, are you here to serve me my meal?"
Baron Todd came up behind Hart, a crimson glint appearing deep in his pupils.
"Yes, of course, it's for a meal—"
His tone was somewhat menacing.
In an instant, Baron Todd pounced, his sharp canines biting into Hart's neck.
Only by draining the blood of this ungrateful human could Todd alleviate his hatred; he wanted Hart to witness his own life slipping away.
"Click".
There was no familiar feel of flesh and blood.
Hart didn't flinch at all; his neck, which should have been soft and fragile, was covered with hard, crimson scales, which snapped Todd's canine teeth cleanly.
Baron Todd, his face contorted in horror, covered his mouth and exclaimed, "How could this be—"
Hart, who had anticipated this, laughed wildly, "How could a pest like you, hiding in the shadows, possibly understand the great power of your master!"
"Look, this is the noble bloodline of the True Dragon!"
Hart then slowly stood up, turned around, and his bulging muscles burst through his clothes.
It turned out that not only his neck, but also the sides of his cheeks were covered with scales, only they were hidden by his hair. Even his eyes had turned into golden vertical pupils, and sharp claws had grown on his hands.
Baron Todd shouted, "Quickly! Guards! Kill this monster for me!"
The soldiers guarding the side immediately raised their spears, but instead of attacking Hart as Todd had expected, they pointed the spear tips at Baron Todd.
A heavy shadow fell over Baron Todd's face, followed by barely suppressed rage. "Damn it! You betrayed me!"
"These lowly humans are indeed untrustworthy!"
He was so enraged that he lost his mind and directly cast a spell on Hart.
"Melf's Acid Arrow!"
An acidic arrow flew towards Hart, but was blocked by an invisible shield.
Baron Todd tried to use a teleportation spell to escape, but found that the room was surrounded by Whisperflower —a special material that suppressed magic, making it impossible for him to pass through this space.
He was even more furious, thinking to himself, "There's another spellcaster? This is a complete ambush, except I'm the prey!"
"No, it's Charlotte!"
"You are the biggest traitor!"
Baron Todd turned around angrily, only to find that his usually humble servant was now looking at him with disdain.
Hypnosis
An eerie magical light flickered in Charlotte's hands.
Baron Todd immediately fell into a deep sleep, collapsing to the ground and entering a magical slumber.
Hart kicked the sleeping Vampire Spawn on the ground and said with satisfaction, "Well done, Charlotte. This vampire rat hiding in the dark isn't very strong, but it has too many ways to escape."
"It would be bad if we let him escape back to North Wind Fortress."
He chuckled, "Poor Baron, he thought it was a trap for me, but he didn't expect to be the prey himself."
Charlotte interjected, "Lord Hart, what about the promised reward?"
Hart waved his hand, appearing very generous. "Don't worry, you won't be shortchanged by a single one of the five hundred Gold Coin. There are also Magic Scroll from the Baron's Manor, and various positions in Sigg Town will be reserved for you. Just do your best."
Hart was about to kill the Vampire with his silver knife when Charlotte rushed forward to stop him.
"Don't kill him. Lord Lang Pu specifically instructed that he wants to study the Vampire Spawn carefully."
Upon hearing Lang Pu's name, Hart shuddered and exclaimed, "Tsk tsk, then this Baron is probably begging for death."
Once everything was over, the guards revealed their true colors.
—They are all members of the [Magic Coin] guild!
The guild had a vice president Ming Yue, and members such as Skyfire, Wei Ai Fa Ye, Ka Ba Lie Ba, all of whom were renowned mage players in later generations.
Even the maids serving the meal were dressed up as Flying Witch.
These players fully utilized the advanced flattery techniques they had learned in the New Era, employing a one-stop service of sweet talk to quickly become the Baron's confidants and infiltrate the Baron's Manor.
Poor Baron Todd thought he had gained trusted followers who were not controlled by the Ember Nest, but little did he know that these players were actually after his head.
Charlotte put her hands on her hips and laughed wildly, "Haha, after completing this set of quests, our guild's wealth will be fully utilized. From now on, this Sigg Town will be our Magic Coin ' territory!"
