The next day.
The sky had only just begun to lighten.
Long Xingyu had already prepared breakfast. After calling Long Haoyu and Long Haochen up to eat, he immediately led them toward the summit of Mount Odin.
Unlike yesterday, many iron cages had been placed in front of the three wooden cabins atop Mount Odin today. Inside them were Magic Beasts Long Haoyu and Long Haochen both recognized.
A First-Order mid-grade Magic Beast: Scorpion Tail Lizards.
They were roughly four feet long, pitch-black all over, with four short yet sturdy legs.
Trapped in their cages, every Scorpion Tail Lizard stared at Long Haoyu and Long Haochen with bloodshot eyes.
One look made it obvious that they had been starved until their eyes were red. Yet whenever they looked at Long Xingyu, they could not help but tremble.
"Magic Beasts?" Long Haochen cried out, immediately growing tense.
Long Haoyu remained relatively calm. Looking at the Scorpion Tail Lizards in their cages, he did not need to guess that this was Long Xingyu's handiwork.
He simply had not expected that after history began to change, his old man would alter the training plan to this extent.
"This is how you will train today. Scorpion Tail Lizards are only First-Order mid-grade Magic Beasts, equivalent to humans with 30 to 50 points of Spirit Energy."
"Haochen, your Spirit Energy is 40 points. Haoyu, your strength is 75 points. The two of you brothers are more than capable of handling these Scorpion Tail Lizards."
"Once training begins, I will throw all of these Scorpion Tail Lizards into the Owl Ant Nest. You will need to deal with them while under siege from the Owl Ants."
"There is only one standard for completing today's training: either kill every one of these Scorpion Tail Lizards, or reach your limit under their attacks!"
Long Xingyu spoke sternly.
His chilling gaze fell upon the iron cages. With a cold snort, he silenced the ten Scorpion Tail Lizards that had been restlessly agitated within them.
A hint of grievance was plainly visible in the bloodshot eyes of each Scorpion Tail Lizard.
You're so high and mighty. You're so impressive. You're using us as whetstones for your sons. Have you ever considered our feelings?
We Magic Beasts are living creatures too!
"Dad, are you saying we have to fight these Magic Beasts?"
Long Haochen drew a deep breath and asked, "And deal with these Scorpion Tail Lizards while those Owl Ants attack us?"
Long Xingyu gave an affirming hum. "You two brothers do not need to split up today. You will enter the same Owl Ant Nest."
"You are blood brothers. Today's training is the perfect opportunity to develop coordination between you. Once you grow stronger, you will be able to watch over and support each other."
Long Haochen did not suspect anything. He was nowhere near as shrewd as Long Xingyu, nor was he as mature, steady, and cunning as Long Haoyu.
Upon hearing that he could fight side by side with Long Haoyu, excitement appeared on his face.
"Haoyu, do you have any objections?" Long Xingyu asked Long Haoyu.
Long Haoyu shook his head. "None. We can begin today's training at any time!"
"Then go down!"
The boulder was tossed aside, and Long Xingyu threw a round object into the Owl Ant Nest.
The Owl Ant Nest, which had been dim yesterday, instantly brightened under the illumination of that sphere.
The moment Long Haoyu and Long Haochen climbed down, countless Owl Ants swarmed them. Many more charged toward the sphere.
Under the Owl Ants' frantic disturbance, the light's effectiveness was greatly reduced.
"Brother, I'll work hard and make sure I don't hold you back!"
Gripping his Bamboo Sword, Long Haochen solemnly watched the flock of Owl Ants pouncing toward him. His Bamboo Sword had already begun slashing without pause.
Of course, many Owl Ants still slipped through, biting and tearing at his body.
The intense pain greatly affected Long Haochen's movements, and small mistakes appeared from time to time.
Long Haoyu said nothing and began his own training for the day. Wave after wave of Owl Ants died beneath No Edge.
"You should be used to it by now!"
"Next, I'm throwing all the Scorpion Tail Lizards in!"
Long Xingyu's voice sounded from the cave entrance.
Then, shadow after shadow dropped down from above.
A series of bangs rang out as the Scorpion Tail Lizards all landed inside the cave.
Already starved until their eyes were red, they all fixed their gazes on Long Haoyu and Long Haochen the instant they landed.
Long Xingyu silently watched from the entrance for a while. Once he confirmed there were no major issues, he resealed the opening with the boulder to prevent the Scorpion Tail Lizards or Owl Ants from escaping.
"Letting Haochen train alongside Haoyu will allow him to constantly experience Haoyu's battle instinct."
"With enough combat and slaughter, he should be influenced by it without even realizing it."
"As for these Scorpion Tail Lizards, this kid Haoyu is already at the level of a Seventh-Order Attendant Knight. Dealing with them should not be too troublesome."
"Mm, even if there is some difficulty, they should not face any mortal danger inside. Let me see where your limit truly lies!"
Long Xingyu spoke in a low voice. Pain once again covered his face as he clenched his fists tightly enough for his fingertips to pierce his palms, blood flowing down his hands.
Whenever he thought of just how outstanding Long Haoyu was, it felt as though his heart were being burned in a furnace. He desperately wanted to overturn every decision he had made.
Inside the Owl Ant Nest, the light had grown exceedingly dim.
The Owl Ant swarm continued attacking without pause, while the Scorpion Tail Lizards, starved until their eyes were red, could no longer suppress the deepest desires in their hearts.
Long Haoyu and Long Haochen, these two small-framed humans, had been added to tonight's menu.
Without that powerful human from before, dealing with these two small-framed humans should not take much effort. Filling their bellies came first.
"Brother, what should we do?" Long Haochen was somewhat nervous. While fending off the Owl Ant swarm, he cautiously watched the ten Scorpion Tail Lizards.
Long Haoyu answered gently, "You handle the one on the far right. Leave the rest to me."
"Huh? Brother, that's nine Scorpion Tail Lizards! Although they are probably only as strong as Third Grade to Fifth Grade Attendant Knights, there are so many of them. They'll definitely attack together!" Long Haochen cried out in shock.
Long Haoyu smiled. "Haochen, when have you ever seen your brother do something without confidence?"
"Listen to me. Just focus on the one on the far right. I'll handle the rest!"
As soon as he finished speaking.
Long Haoyu did not remain where he was.
Passively taking hits had never been his style, and the Scorpion Tail Lizards' intentions were very clear.
Rather than endure the Owl Ants' attacks while dodging the Scorpion Tail Lizards, it was better to take the initiative.
He felt no pressure at all from combat like this today. If Long Haochen had not been sharing the same Owl Ant Nest with him—
He would not have minded taking on all ten Scorpion Tail Lizards himself.
As for whether his body could endure it, whether this was his limit—
He had never considered such things, just as he had never wavered in his beliefs.
Besides, true limits were never spoken into existence.
Limits were squeezed out bit by bit!
