Carry Soil to Receive Title

A-Yi was blasted a long way away. Watching the arc of her flight, Qiu Luoye lowered the washboard, thinking she would never return.

But by nightfall, A-Yi had returned after all.

She brought A-Yun, A-Long, and a group of villagers. They hauled several cartloads of coal and bricks out of the deep mountains, paying everyone who worked two silver dollars apiece.

Li Banfeng was quite curious. "Is there even anywhere in this village to spend money?"

"There is! There are plenty of places to spend it!" A-Yun explained. "Villagers have to pay when they buy things from one another. The older villagers sometimes go outside for a stroll too, and that costs money."

"Where can they go?"

They went to both the Inner State and the Outer State, but the place they visited most often was Pro State.

As the two spoke, the coal on the carts climbed down, picked up bricks, and began building A-Yi a house.

Li Banfeng had seen plenty in his time. In Pro State, things like puppets and Stone Men serving as thugs or laborers were nothing unusual to him.

But coal directly carrying bricks to build a house was something he simply could not wrap his head around.

Li Banfeng squatted beside the coal. Smoke rose from its body as it carried bricks upstairs. Nearby, other lumps of coal mixed mortar. Working together, they swiftly repaired the wall Li Banfeng had blown apart.

One small lump of coal made several trips carrying bricks before its body burned away completely. Leaving behind a wisp of ash, it drifted over to A-Yi.

A-Yi took out a glass bottle, collected the ash, and softly asked, "What do you want to be in your next life?"
