| First Appearance | Chapter 15 |
Background / History
The Peddler travels Pro State with a handcart of sundries and cultivation goods. He sells ordinary household wares alongside Entry Medicine Powder, offering newly exposed “White Lambs” a choice of cultivation paths—for a price. His powders can initiate cultivators into different Dao Gates, making him central to the survival and growth of many paths. 15 567
He is the publicly known First Boss of Snowflake Port, with Master Kong Fang and Du Wenming identified as his direct disciples. 574 His influence extends beyond commerce: he personally reshaped Pro State’s social order so that its rules are strict for the powerful and lenient for ordinary people, the reverse of the order prevalent elsewhere. 681
The Peddler governs through bargains, obligations, and contracts rather than open rulership. He insists that gains and losses must balance, yet accepts costly deals when Pro State’s people, territory, or future are at stake. 455 616 617
Appearance
The Peddler is first described as a man in his thirties. He commonly wears a blue cloth vest even in freezing weather and travels with a handcart carrying a two-tier wooden cabinet. 15 455
- Pushes a cart stocked with sundries, Magical Treasures, medicinal powders, and contracts. 15 617
- Uses a red lantern and a pellet drum while calling out his wares. 15
- Often carries a Feather Duster, which he can use as both a merchant’s tool and a weapon. 133 617
- Smokes rolled cigarettes during conversations and after battles. 616 700
Personality
The Peddler frames nearly every decision as business. He values fair exchange, rejects unpaid favors, and evaluates events through profit, loss, capital, and repayment. His fairness can be merciless: he refuses to bend contracts for sympathy and is willing to let an unsalvageable territory fail rather than pretend it can be saved. 456 606 617
Despite this detachment, he repeatedly assumes responsibility for Pro State’s crises. He intervenes against plagues, foreign infiltrators, collapsing Proper Lands, the Great Totem, and invading armies. He also rescues old companions such as Face Not Big and plans dangerous operations personally when he believes others should not bear the risk. 133 582 681 809
He can be casually humorous and impatient with Li Banfeng, but becomes severe when confronting those who break Pro State’s rules or endanger its people. 454 617 701
“Winning some, losing some, no debts owed.” 616
