Their relationship was already distant, and Qian Yuliu's position in the feared Statistics Department made her increasingly troubled by his reputation and alleged crimes 9 14 18.

When Qian Yuliu's actions at her school confirmed the rumors surrounding him, Yuya confronted him directly about arrests, killings, and his former classmates. She cared deeply about his answer despite her anger, but his admission that his former kindness had been a deliberate mask left her hurt and distrustful 18 19.

After Qian Yuliu was hospitalized, Yuya began visiting him every day—initially to annoy him, then to bring food and care for him.
