Background / History
Zhang Mou came from a poor family with seven daughters. Her original name was Zhang Mo, but an unclear registration entry changed it to “Zhang Mou”; the family retained the simple name during a famine, believing it would be easier for a child to grow up safely with one 31.
She married into a branch of the Qin Family. Her husband died early, leaving her to raise Prince Qin, whom she spoiled heavily. The family’s preference for sons and her focus on Prince Qin contributed to her cold treatment of Qin Xiangyi, her husband’s daughter and Zhang Mou’s ward 4 23.
After Prince Qin was rendered vegetative, Zhang Mou lost much of her security within the Qin Family. Several male relatives began coveting her because of her beauty, social connections, and ability to manage company affairs; she became especially vulnerable as a widowed woman without her son’s protection 29.
Appearance
Zhang Mou is a mature, meticulously groomed beauty whose appearance makes her seem far younger than her actual age of forty.
- Often wears refined clothing, elaborate makeup, glasses, and striking red lipstick 4 22.
- Her black evening dress and red lips at the Qin Family gathering emphasize a glamorous, intimidating image 22 23.
- Appears notably more captivating without her glasses 33.
- Is described as having excellent skincare and physical upkeep, looking roughly thirty despite being forty 23 28 31.
- Her exhausted appearance and haggardness reflect prolonged stress and insomnia 4 29.
Personality
Zhang Mou is pragmatic, proud, and highly conscious of her precarious position in the Qin Family. She considers Jing Shuxuan a suitable successor and values independence, social capability, and self-reliance. Her interest in Hua Linglong is similarly practical: Hua Linglong is beautiful, intelligent, clean, and—most importantly to Zhang Mou—a woman who poses no risk of pregnancy or seizing her property 29 40.
Her guarded exterior conceals profound loneliness. She fears darkness, suffers from severe insomnia, and becomes emotionally dependent on those who offer her protection or affection 23 29. She is direct about attraction and surprisingly bold in private, but retains a strong need to preserve her dignity and avoid appearing vulnerable 31 40.
Zhang Mou initially harbors deep resentment toward Qin Xiangyi, shaped by the original Xiangyi’s behavior and her association with Prince Qin’s downfall. She does not know that Qin Xiangyi and Hua Linglong are the same person, resulting in sharply different attitudes toward the two identities 30 32 50.
Abilities & Skills
Flower Fairy Physiology
Zhang Mou is detected as a Flower Fairy after Qin Xiangyi rescues her during the Qin Family gathering 23.
- A flower seed is planted in her by Qin Xiangyi 23 24.
- Her status as a Flower Fairy permits the potential creation of Flower People; using Little Grass to control her would remove that qualification 28.
- She is described as newly awakened and does not yet know how to control her abilities 49.
Golden Grass Flower Person
Zhang Mou’s flower seed is activated amid her encounter with Qin Xiangyi, producing the Golden Grass Flower Person 45.
- The Flower People consider the resulting Flower Person potentially weak, which contributes to their lack of enthusiasm during Zhang Mou’s activation 44.
- The context does not document Golden Grass’s specific abilities.
Relationships
- Qin Xiangyi — Her ward/adoptive daughter. Zhang Mou strongly dislikes the original Xiangyi and continues to treat the current Xiangyi with suspicion or impatience, despite relying on her as a Chosen One at times 4 30 49.
- Hua Linglong — Zhang Mou’s romantic interest, unaware that Hua Linglong is Qin Xiangyi’s alternate identity. She seeks affection, companionship, and a secure arrangement with her 28 31 40.
- Prince Qin — Her biological son. Zhang Mou spoiled him and sought Xia Shang’s help after his paralysis 4 16.
- Jing Shuxuan — Treated as Zhang Mou’s future daughter-in-law and chosen successor. Zhang Mou relies on Shuxuan for comfort and assistance, especially after supernatural incidents at her home 20 29 30.
- Xia Shang — A psychology professor whom Zhang Mou consults regarding Prince Qin and later her mental trauma. Xia Shang investigates the supernatural incidents at Zhang Mou’s villa 16 44 46.
- Qin An and Qin Ren — Qin Family twins who assist in protecting Zhang Mou from a predatory relative 27 29.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Release from Baichi Sanatorium
Zhang Mou removes Qin Xiangyi from Baichi Sanatorium but displays hatred and regret toward her. At this stage, she favors Prince Qin and has little affection for Xiangyi 4.
Qin Family Gathering
Zhang Mou brings Jing Shuxuan to the Qin Family gathering in preparation for an important guest’s arrival. During the event, a Qin Family uncle harasses her after her dress is torn. Qin Xiangyi, disguised as a welcoming attendant, protects her and escorts her away 20 23.
The rescue leads the system to detect Zhang Mou as a Flower Fairy. Qin Xiangyi subsequently plants a flower seed in her, beginning Zhang Mou’s connection to the Flower God Ring 23 24.
Hua Linglong Relationship
Following the gathering, Zhang Mou contacts Qin Xiangyi’s Hua Linglong identity and openly pursues a relationship with her. She asks to be called “Madam” to avoid arousing suspicion and frames their connection as something private that cannot be exposed 28 31 32.
Her attraction is rooted in loneliness as well as calculation: she believes Hua Linglong can provide companionship without threatening her finances, reputation, or autonomy 40.
Villa Incidents and Flower Seed Activation
Qin Xiangyi exploits Zhang Mou’s fear of darkness by arranging apparent supernatural disturbances in her villa. The incidents drive Zhang Mou to seek Jing Shuxuan’s support and intensify her fear and insomnia 29 30.
During a later encounter with Hua Linglong, Zhang Mou’s flower seed activates and creates Golden Grass. Huangquan incapacitates Zhang Mou with a terrifying illusion, leaving her traumatized and prompting Xia Shang’s investigation 45 46.
Journey to Heaven City
Zhang Mou travels to Heaven City with Qin Xiangyi and Xia Shang. She helps arrange Qin Xiangyi’s accommodation and plans to register her at school and have her tested by the Chosen One Alliance 47 48 49 50.
