Background

The Shadow Emperor led the Shadow Race through more than five thousand years of persecution and concealment after the race was nearly exterminated. The surviving Shadow Race hid throughout the Earth Tree Star Cluster, infiltrated the Earth Tree Race External Affairs Department, and gathered intelligence on their enemies. Kotes personally hunted the Shadow Emperor on multiple occasions during this period. 274 276

After learning of Kotes's mission to the Local Galaxy Cluster, the Shadow Emperor secretly infiltrated Kotes's transport warship. His original objective was surveillance while the Shadow King attacked Kotes's territory; he considered directly assassinating Kotes nearly impossible until Kotes suffered severe Divine Soul damage. 276

He ambushed Kotes alongside the Soul Emperor, transforming into a Shadow Spike and later a massive Shadow Greatblade to exploit Kotes's weakened state. Their combined attacks killed Kotes, ending the Shadow Emperor's long conflict with him. 274 276
