After night fell, Lu Siye stopped cultivating. He picked up his phone and glanced at a text message from the bank.
It said that 100,000 yuan had been deposited into his bank account.
Lu Siye rubbed his chin. Though he didn't know where the money had come from, he guessed the Web had sent it.
He'd only bought ten years' worth of longevity vouchers that morning, and they'd already sent him this much money. Did the Web value a year of life at 100,000 yuan?
The Web really was honest. They really did take lives, but they really did pay up, too.
Knock, knock, knock!
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door of his rented apartment. A young voice came from outside.
"Hello, Mr. Lu! Your takeout is here!"
Lu Siye turned toward the door and instinctively sensed the area.
Mm! He felt a pulse of blood energy. Definitely a living person.
For some reason, after confirming it was a living person, he actually felt a little disappointed.
He quickly got up, opened the door, thanked the delivery guy, and took the food from him.
Back in the living room, he took the food container, disposable chopsticks, napkins, and toothpicks out of the bag and set them on the table.
Lu Siye looked around. It seemed like something was missing.
Right! He was missing a drink.
Lu Siye looked at the fridge in the kitchen, held out his palm, and activated the Northern Darkness Divine Art. A powerful suction force burst forth, pulling open the fridge door. A bottle of Ice Cola flew out and landed in his hand.
After a whole day of secluded cultivation, Lu Siye hadn't made much progress in controlling the Yang energy within him. However, his control over the suction force produced by the Northern Darkness Divine Art had improved considerably.
He unscrewed the cap and took a swig straight from the bottle.
"Ahh~ That hits the spot~"
Then he opened the food container, and the mouthwatering aroma of beef chow mein wafted out.
Lu Siye took a deep breath, and his hunger kicked in at once. His hands became a blur as he wolfed down the delicious beef chow mein.
He gently set the empty container down, then raised his hand and drew a pack of tissues toward him. He pulled out a sheet and wiped his mouth.
Suddenly, his hand froze. He turned his head toward the balcony.
The Northern Darkness inner force he'd left on the saleswoman earlier that day had reacted!
Lu Siye sprang to his feet. With a whoosh, he vanished from the living room, leaving behind the food container, disposable chopsticks, and tissues scattered across the floor as if a gust of wind had swept through.
Under the cover of night, Lu Siye became a blur as he sprinted across the rooftops of various buildings, heading toward the source of the Northern Darkness inner force's reaction.
A few minutes later, Lu Siye came to a stop on the balcony of a low-rise building.
He looked down at the empty street below, frowning slightly.
A broken streetlight left one stretch of road in darkness, and the spot he'd sensed earlier was right there in the shadows.
Lu Siye leaped down from the low-rise building and landed at the edge of the darkness.
He concentrated Yang energy in his eyes. The darkness before him shifted in appearance, becoming like an invisible, pitch-black curtain of water that sealed off the area.
Lu Siye reached out and poked the curtain. A chill came from its surface.
A Ghost Wall?
He narrowed his eyes and pressed his hand against the curtain. A powerful suction force burst forth, leaving a huge hole in the curtain in an instant.
Seizing the opportunity, Lu Siye darted inside.
A Ghost Wall, huh? Let's see you try to stop your Fourth Master!
On a deserted, silent street, Zhuang Xiaoman ran in a panic. One of her high heels had come off.
She kept glancing back at the darkness drawing ever closer, surging toward her like a tide. Her face was filled with terror.
Suddenly, she seemed to trip over something. She stumbled and crashed hard to the ground.
She turned to look. The heel had snapped off her shoe and was stuck in a crack in the pavement nearby.
"Big Sis, stay and play ball with us!"
Just as Zhuang Xiaoman struggled to get back up and keep running, two childlike voices sounded behind her.
When had they gotten there?
Zhuang Xiaoman trembled like a leaf. Stiffly, she turned to look behind her—and came face-to-face with a massive head. The stench of rot hit her.
"Ah!!!" Zhuang Xiaoman screamed. She kicked desperately against the ground, helplessly scrambling backward.
Her frantic retreat came to a halt. She felt as if she'd bumped into something icy.
She stiffly raised her head. Another boy stood there, his pitch-black eyes fixed on her.
"Big Sis, are you not playing with us because you think our ball is ugly?" The boy squatted down, rested his chin in his hands, and asked Zhuang Xiaoman innocently.
"N-no..." Zhuang Xiaoman was so terrified she could barely speak.
"See? Big Sis says the ball is ugly." The boy stood up and turned to the other boy.
"If it's ugly, then let's get another one. I think Big Sis's head would make a much prettier ball." The boy tossed aside the head in his hands and tilted his own, staring at her menacingly.
"No... Don't..." Zhuang Xiaoman huddled in the corner, overwhelmed by helplessness. Tears streamed down her face, smudging her beautiful makeup.
"Big Sis, stay and be our ball!" The two boys slowly closed in, radiating boundless malice.
"Why don't you go play ball with your own damn ass!"
Suddenly, an angry roar exploded in the ears of the human and the two ghosts.
"Who?" The two boys immediately turned around to look toward the sound.
But before they could spot anyone, they saw a red-hot Tang Heng Blade slice through the pitch-black night and hurtle toward them.
Oh no!
The Twin Ghost Infants panicked. Fear Points +156!
The Ghost Infant was startled and tried to dodge, but it was already too late. The blade was moving too fast.
Pfft!
Carrying tremendous force, the Blazing Blood Blade pierced straight through one Ghost Infant's chest. The exposed blade on its back drove into the ground under the force of the impact.
"Ah!!"
"Ah!!"
Both Ghost Infants let out piercing screams. A bizarre wound appeared in the chest of the one that hadn't been struck, too.
Ding~ Fear Points...
"Brother, save me!" cried the Ghost Infant pinned to the ground.
"Little brother, wait for me!" The older Ghost Infant fought through the pain and rushed toward its younger brother.
"Are you two really ignoring me?" Suddenly, a cold voice exploded beside the older Ghost Infant's ear, making its scalp go numb.
The Twin Ghost Infants were terrified. When had he gotten there? Fear Points +198!
Before it could react, a large hand seized its head. Its body was forced out of control and slammed into the ground, smashing through the concrete as it was sent flying.
Lu Siye lifted the Ghost Infant off the ground. Suction burst from his palm, and he forcefully drew the icy Yin energy out of its body.
"Please, let me go!"
Ding...
The Ghost Infant screamed in agony. Its blue-black hand grabbed Lu Siye's wrist, trying to break it and save itself.
Sizzle~
The moment its hand touched Lu Siye's wrist, it sizzled like raw meat on a red-hot iron griddle, and a wisp of smoke rose into the air.
"No! You can't kill me! If you kill me, my master won't let you get away with it!" Its attempt to save itself had failed. Feeling the Yin energy at its core drain away, the Ghost Infant's pitch-black eyes filled with terror.
Ding...
"Tell him to come, then!" Lu Siye said calmly, the suction force in his hand growing stronger.
"No!!!"
The two Ghost Infants cried out in terror and vanished into the air as wisps of smoke at the same time.
Ding~ Twin Ghost Infants died (Evil Ghost), Fear Points +200!
Clink~
A silvery-white object fell from beneath the Ghost Infant and hit the ground with a clear, ringing sound.
