Background / History
Kaguya was raised as the daughter of the Shinomiya family, where her life was tightly scheduled and her choices were often made for her. Her family expected her to run for student council president, and she initially believed she lacked the freedom to refuse. Her mother’s return as a Guardian Spirit gave her the resolve to begin resisting those expectations. 288
Her mother died of heart disease when Kaguya was very young. Years later, Kaguya discovered her mother lingering as an earthbound spirit near the school; after Natsuki accidentally contracted the spirit, Mrs. Kaguya became his Guardian Spirit. Kaguya gradually reconnected with her mother despite finding her newfound playful personality difficult to handle. 48 49 50
Hayasaka Ai has been Kaguya’s attendant since returning to her side at age seven. Hayasaka was also assigned to monitor Kaguya amid the Shinomiya family’s internal inheritance conflict, though she remains fiercely protective of her Young Lady. 867
Appearance
Kaguya is a widely recognized beauty at Shuchiin Academy, known for her waist-length black hair, red eyes, and an outwardly glacial presence that earned her the nickname “Ice Kaguya-hime.” 4 737
- Long black hair, often tied with a red ribbon. 68
- Red eyes and a composed, expressionless gaze. 48
- Usually carries herself with formal, dignified posture. 120
- Her classmates regard her as one of Shuchiin Academy’s three great beauties. 737
Personality
Kaguya projects an aloof, unapproachable image, often maintaining a blank expression even when frightened, embarrassed, or deeply agitated. Her encounter with the evil spirit in her shoe locker and her fear while trapped by the Mirror Ghost reveal how much anxiety she conceals behind the “ice princess” persona. 4 34
She is highly competitive, especially in academics and games. Being surpassed by Natsuki in exam rankings unsettles her, and she actively seeks useful skills so she will not fall behind her companions. 159 179 She also has a practical, business-minded outlook, immediately considering whether the group could mass-produce and sell the Night Vision Potion. 393
Despite her pride, Kaguya is observant, methodical, and willing to act decisively for people she values. She records skill-test data, helps coordinate investigations, prioritizes rescuing friends over frightened bystanders, and steadily becomes more comfortable relying on others. 118 576 739
