Background / History

The Hayasaka family was once prestigious but lost a struggle against the Shinomiya family. The Shinomiyas absorbed the family, and Ai was born at the Shinomiya estate alongside Shinomiya Kaguya. She was taken away at age two for elite education, then returned at age seven as Kaguya's attendant. 867

Ai's role was not limited to household service. Shinomiya Unryu used her as a spy to monitor Kaguya, whose position as a daughter gave her potential inheritance rights amid the family's internal power struggle. Ai concealed this mission from Kaguya while serving as her closest aide. 867

She maintained several identities to protect her cover: Kaguya's reserved maid “Hasaka,” the aggressively friendly underclassman “Hanamori,” and the distant school-girl persona Hayasaka Ai. Amamiya Natsuki eventually uncovered that all three identities belonged to her. 284
