Background / History
Maxim initially served the Blood Vulture Clan, owing a debt of gratitude to Lord Jed. He did not, however, feel loyalty to the clan itself; he chose Murphy because he believed the then-weak vampire would accomplish great things and offered his allegiance in hopes of earning a meaningful future beside him. 15 43
As Murphy's loyal servant, Maxim fought Witch Hunters, distributed captured gear to Murphy's newly summoned warriors, and learned to work around their language barrier by personally teaching them how to wear looted armor. 6 He also acted as Murphy's double during dangerous operations, wearing his master's equipment and drawing enemy attention so Murphy could strike at decisive moments. 15 23
His growth culminated in the Black Iron Trial, during which he defeated Arthur, a former brother whose jealousy and resentment had turned him against Maxim. The victory released Maxim's hidden potential and began his transition from an ordinary soldier into an extraordinary warrior. 76 87
After helping establish order in Cadman City, Maxim led the Cadman Self-Rescue Army, protected survivors, and became a trusted commander among both civilians and Murphy's warriors. Murphy later granted him the First Embrace, the title of Baron Lim, and command of the Night Knights. 119 132 143
Appearance
Maxim is a white-haired, pale-skinned warrior whose stern appearance and heavy armor make him visibly distinct from ordinary humans. Following his First Embrace, his physical presence became far more imposing and bestial. 6 132 133

Personality
Maxim is defined by personal loyalty to Murphy rather than blind devotion to the Blood Vulture Clan. He is ambitious, pragmatic, and eager to become Murphy's sharpest weapon, but his ambition is tied to service and achievement rather than status alone. 15 43 1434
As a commander, he is stern and uncompromising toward cowardice, recklessness, and threats to Transylvanian order. He reprimands reckless warriors, executes or harshly disciplines violent criminals, and treats military discipline as necessary for survival. 50 54 345
Despite his intimidating manner, he protects Cadman City's survivors and children. The children rescued by his forces recognize him as a dependable guardian who brings supplies back from the ruins. 132
