Lin Xiaowan began her introduction. "The Protruding Beak Vulture looks little different from common vultures. Its distinguishing feature is its duck-like beak. That protruding beak inherently restricts its growth and limits its offensive capability."
"Strictly speaking, the Protruding Beak Vulture is not exactly a harmless creature. It often ambushes humans, but because its aggression is limited, it cannot really be classified as a ferocious beast."
"It also has little territorial awareness. As for uninvited guests trespassing on the ground beneath its habitat, it deals with them entirely as it pleases. More often than not, it merely croaks a few times as a warning to drive them away. If the intruders refuse to leave, it simply turns a blind eye."
"But toward enemies who offend its aerial territory, it shows no mercy. Like an enraged brute, it loses all reason and immediately begins fighting. It is as though it were saying that it had already yielded the ground, so they had better not push their luck and come any higher."
As Qi Jialue listened, he could not help finding it strange. He had noticed this earlier: although the jungle's lush trees blotted out the sky, the motley birds mostly darted and flew beneath the trees. Virtually none dared fly above the layers of treetops.
Lin Xiaowan continued, "When a Protruding Beak Vulture encounters an evenly matched enemy, it flaps its wings and draws upon the spiritual energy around it, whipping up blade after blade of wind. When it encounters an opponent it cannot match, it uses its exceptional wind-riding ability and tremendous speed to slip away. If it cannot shake the enemy through speed alone, it dives into the water and swims away underwater like a duck."
Qi Jialue considered this before asking, "What does it usually eat?"
