Background

Fatenai was born as Fatenai Wisdom, the only child and eldest daughter of Duke Aldrich Wisdom of the powerful Wisdom Family in the Kingdom of Luther. Raised to be an exemplary noble, she was notably calm, observant, and academically accomplished for her age; her riding and swordsmanship were especially strong. 1 5

At twelve, she failed her magic-awakening ritual and was declared unable to use magic. Because Mana defines authority, wealth, and succession among Luther’s nobility, the failure immediately turned her into an object of pity, mockery, and political calculation. Fatenai nevertheless publicly silenced one noblewoman’s gossip before helping her fainted mother from the cathedral. 1

Her family responded by accelerating an engagement to Theretine Arrenieu. Fatenai understood that the marriage was politically motivated and confronted her parents over being treated as a commodity, but Duke Wisdom insisted that she fulfill her duty to the family. 2 3 6

During this period, Fatenai discovered the marks connected to Grand History, a system that lets her summon figures from another world. Her first significant summon, Hermes, gave her access to alchemical support and helped her devise an escape from noble society. 2 9

History

Escape from Dryden

While visiting Dryden under Lelia Wisdom’s supervision, Fatenai used a potion to disguise herself as a frightened commoner. She deceived Lelia, Prince Mise, and the King into believing that the real Fatenai Wisdom had been replaced by an impostor, then prepared to flee before the court could dispose of an unidentifiable “commoner.” 9

She adopted the name Fatenai Frayton while hiding her noble identity. Her escape severed her from the protected life she had known and forced her to learn survival outside noble society. 11

Life in Eisole Forest

Fatenai entered Eisole Forest intending to survive independently, but was quickly injured and pursued by berserk boars. Her determination to keep living pushed her to use a sword despite fear and inexperience. 10 11

After the hunter Wickel rescued her, she negotiated to remain in his cabin and help investigate the source of the boars’ abnormal behavior. Wickel taught her practical forest survival, including portable equipment, weapons, and the realities of moving through dangerous terrain. 11 12

Fatenai gradually rejected the assumptions of her noble upbringing. Learning that Wickel also could not use magic, she voiced her belief that Mana should serve everyone rather than deepen the divide between nobles and commoners. 15

Wickel later died while protecting her during the conflict surrounding the Eye of Simorely, leaving Fatenai burdened by guilt and alone in the forest. 19 20

Research and the Adventurer World

Following Wickel’s death, Fatenai lived with Charles Darwin, who taught her about Eisole Forest’s plants and animals. Together they identified a plant with an exceptionally high Mana-absorption rate that might allow non-magic users to accumulate and process magic through another medium. 20

She also became more capable of using plants, potions, and improvised tools for survival. Her knowledge of Mana traces and alchemical materials helped her evade mages and defend herself against the Ansendil Family’s Black Cloaks. 24 26 27

Fatenai sought recognition as Wickel’s successor at the Champagne Tavern and was accepted by the adventurers there as a prospective adventurer. That acceptance proved dangerous when some adventurers captured her in pursuit of the Eye of Simorely; she escaped with Helise’s help. 25 26

Path to Starlight University

After displaying white-light magic against a giant wolf, Fatenai saw a path toward becoming a mage. She asked Merlin for help in temporarily controlling a wolf pack so that others would recognize her magical potential and allow her to enter Starlight University. 33 34

She arrived at Starlight under the identity Fatenai Frayton and was assigned to assist Professor Letta Uzild in a neglected laboratory at the end of the teaching building’s sixth floor. 39

At the university, Fatenai became entangled in the teaching building’s disappearances, corpse visions, possessed students, and unstable Mana. She repeatedly used the Eye of Connection to perceive invisible magical threats and attempted to save Shirey despite the danger. 41 42 47 49

Appearance

Fatenai is a small, pale girl with platinum-blonde hair and blue-purple eyes inherited from her mother. Her appearance often causes others to underestimate her, particularly when she is wearing practical forest clothing or concealing herself beneath a cloak. 1 17 39

  • Platinum-blonde or golden-white hair, often braided, tied back, or hidden beneath a hood. 1 4 15 39
  • Natural blue-purple eyes; she uses potions and disguises to present brown eyes while hiding as Fatenai Frayton. 1 30 34 39
  • Pale complexion and a physically slight build. 1 17 26
  • Initially wears formal noble dresses; later adopts leather armor, practical shirts and trousers, cloaks, and forest gear. 4 12 22 25

Personality

Fatenai is exceptionally composed under scrutiny. Even when her awakening fails, she studies the reactions of the nobles around her before considering her own response, and she uses precise social knowledge to turn their malice back on them. 1

She is fiercely resistant to being controlled. Her refusal to accept the Arrenieu engagement, flight from Dryden, and later pursuit of a place at Starlight all stem from her insistence on choosing her own future. 3 6 9 34

Despite her guardedness, Fatenai is empathetic toward those harmed by the world’s hierarchy. She protects Helise from a berserk boar, heals a wounded unicorn, attempts to help Shirey, and argues that Mana should belong to everyone. 15 22 32 49

Her noble education leaves her observant and socially calculating, but forest life makes her increasingly adaptable. She learns survival, cooking, plant care, combat pragmatism, and how to trust others selectively. 12 20 26

Abilities & Skills

Grand History Summoning

Fatenai possesses the Grand History system and can summon historical or legendary figures from another world. Her summons are constrained by the sparse Mana of the world and normally disappear after a limited period. 2 9 16

  • Has summoned Hermes, Charles Darwin, a Unicorn, and Merlin. 2 16 28 29
  • Only Fatenai could see Hermes when he first appeared. 2
  • Summoned beings may have diminished strength because ambient Mana is thin and slow to recover. 9 17
  • Merlin eventually becomes a permanent summon through a blue gem rather than disappearing normally. 50

Eye of Connection

The Eye of Connection allows Fatenai to see the distribution, movement, and convergence of Mana. 9

  • Tracks Mana traces from creatures and magical activity. 12 13
  • Reveals the magical patterns surrounding mages and alchemical weapons. 13 27
  • Lets her predict attacks from Mana-enhanced opponents, even in darkness or when ordinary sight is impaired. 27 47 49
  • Does not compensate for her limited physical speed and stamina against faster enemies. 27

Gathering Mark

The Gathering Mark concentrates nearby Mana and channels it into a summon, greatly increasing that summon’s usable magical power. 9 17

  • Enhanced Hermes enough to support Fatenai’s escape from Dryden. 9
  • Allowed Darwin to disrupt a female mage’s spellcasting and create an opening for escape. 17
  • Drains the nearby area into a Mana vacuum that takes at least two days to replenish. 9
  • Requires several days for the markings on Fatenai’s hand to recover after use. 17

Mark-Based Recovery

Fatenai can use her hand markings for recovery in certain circumstances. 10

  • Healed a serious wound while facing a berserk boar. 10
  • Used magic to heal a wounded unicorn. 22
  • Avoids using immediate recovery on some injuries when doing so would expose that she possesses unusual abilities. 34

Swordsmanship and Combat

Fatenai trained under Claude before her arranged marriage initially ended her lessons. She later resumed her training and adapted noble swordsmanship into a more direct, practical style. 4 10 28

  • Skilled in horsemanship and was considered notably capable at swordsmanship for a noble girl. 5
  • Uses daggers and swords in close combat, including against berserk boars and Black Cloaks. 10 26 28
  • Combines swordplay with plants and alchemical distractions rather than relying on strength alone. 26 28
  • Her stamina remains a serious limitation in prolonged fights. 27 28

Botanical and Alchemical Knowledge

Darwin’s teaching gives Fatenai a growing practical knowledge of forest plants, cultivation, and Mana-absorbing organisms. 20 22

  • Helps cultivate plants that absorb Mana at unusually high rates. 20
  • Uses Black Demon Vines to bind enemies. 26 28 47
  • Uses Carter Demon Flowers, foul-smelling plants, and other improvised materials to distract or slow pursuers. 26 27
  • Learns to identify plants and cook for herself while living in the forest. 20 22

Equipment

  • Iron sword / longsword — Used during her early forest training and against the Black Cloaks. 10 28
  • DaggersWickel equips her with two accessible daggers for forest travel. 12
  • Shu Zhu Flower dagger — A short dagger given by Wickel Auston; its engraved flower symbolizes feminine courage, hope, and rebellion. 31
  • Black Demon Vine — A plant weapon that rapidly entangles targets. 26 28 47
  • Carter Demon Flower and other plant materials — Used as diversions and pursuit countermeasures. 26 27
  • Blue-purple gemstone — Originally connected to the Arrenieu Family; Hermes leaves it behind after disappearing, and it can alter Fatenai’s eye color. 16 50
  • Merlin’s blue gem — The permanent vessel through which Merlin remains summonable. 50
  • Wickel’s cloak — A modified cloak she wears when entering the Champagne Tavern. 25

  • Wickel — The Eisole Forest hunter who rescues, shelters, and teaches her. His death while protecting her becomes a defining source of guilt. 11 15 20
  • Charles Darwin — A summon, teacher, and research companion. Darwin introduces Fatenai to systematic study of the forest and encourages her to pursue interests of her own. 20 22
  • Helise — A Starlight student and tentative friend. Fatenai protects Helise in battle, while Helise repeatedly aids Fatenai’s escape and later supports her entry into Starlight. 26 32 34
  • HubertHelise’s cautious companion. He initially doubts Fatenai, but they fight together against Morton’s Black Cloaks. 24 28
