Appearance
Helise is described as a delicate-looking woman. During the Month of Trekking, she travels in a wool cloak suitable for Eisole Forest's cold darkness. 29 35
- Often visibly expressive; her face flushes when embarrassed or agitated. 24
- Her normally confident appearance is shaken when Fatenai is endangered. 33
Personality
Helise is enthusiastic, straightforward, and quick to engage others. She readily welcomes strangers, but her eagerness and impulsiveness frequently clash with Hubert's more cautious approach. 21 24
Despite being reckless, she is compassionate and loyal. Fatenai protecting her from the Berserk Boar leaves Helise deeply concerned for her safety; she later insists on searching for Fatenai after the wolves take her, even while exhausted. 32 33 Helise also strongly resents the Holy See's contempt for commoner mages. 36
Abilities & Skills
Elemental Magic
Helise is a pure mage who uses chants to gather ambient magic and cast spells. 28
- Casts fire-based attacks; alongside Hubert, she interrupts Morton's pursuit with searing projectiles, one of which incinerates a black-cloaked assailant. 27
- Manipulates wind to catch Fatenai after she jumps from a window, allowing her to land safely. 26
- Uses alchemical defensive tools to sense the approach of Forresten and Ed outside a cave. 34
- Her chants are more successful than Hubert's, but can be interrupted when enemies close in. 28
- Her limited physical endurance and inexperience leave her vulnerable in prolonged combat. 28 33
Relationships
- Fatenai Frayton — Initially a wary host and potential source of information, Fatenai becomes Helise's ally after helping with the search for the Eye of Simorely. Helise rescues her from the Ansendil Family's pursuers and later develops a protective, increasingly trusting friendship with her. 24 26 34
- Hubert — Her mage companion. Their opposing temperaments lead to frequent arguments: Helise condemns his suspicion and harshness toward Fatenai, while Hubert considers Helise impulsive and overly emotional. 21 33
- Forresten — The Starlight headmaster and Helise's senior. She follows his assignments, including being sent to locate Hubert. 27 37
- Ed Ansendil — A fellow Starlight insider whose unstable magic frightens Helise. She attempts to prevent Fatenai from provoking him. 35
- Morton Ansendil — An enemy who dismisses Starlight as a school of heretics; Helise openly identifies herself as a Starlight student while intervening against him. 27
Story Role / Major Arcs
Search for the Stone Platform and Eye of Simorely
Helise and Hubert first arrive at Fatenai's cabin posing as adventurers while seeking a stone platform in Eisole Forest. Although Helise claims they merely want to see it, they are investigating the Eye of Simorely and its connection to the Champagne Tavern. 21 24
She and Hubert return to enlist Fatenai's help locating the tavern. Fatenai agrees on the condition that the pair assist her if she encounters danger there. 24
Conflict with the Ansendil Family
Helise uses wind magic to help Fatenai escape after her capture by adventurers working under the Ansendil Family. 26 When Morton Ansendil's Black Cloaks corner Fatenai, Helise and Hubert intervene, revealing their Starlight affiliation and fighting with fire magic. 27
Against the Black Cloaks, Helise struggles to complete her chants under pressure. Hubert takes a dagger wound shielding her, allowing her to retaliate. Fatenai ultimately summons a Unicorn to carry Helise and Hubert to safety. 28
Search for Fatenai and Journey to Starlight
Fatenai protects Helise from a Berserk Boar in the swamp, suffering an injury before wolves carry her away. Helise panics at first but regains her composure and joins the search. 32
Her disagreement with Hubert escalates when he treats Fatenai's abduction as a likely conspiracy. Helise rejects his suspicion, emphasizing that Fatenai was injured while saving her. 33 After Fatenai displays magic while facing a giant wolf, Helise accompanies her and the group toward Starlight University. 33 34
Encounter with the Holy See
In the Unclaimed Forest, Helise directly corrects Holy See personnel who call the group adventurers: they are mages. Her anger reflects her opposition to the institution's dismissal of commoner mages. 36
