Background

Su Yu was originally an ordinary university student who transmigrated into the body of a fifteen-year-old Su Family disciple in Skywind City. The original Su Yu had been a cultivation genius at ten, reaching the third level of Qi Refining in half a year, before inexplicably stagnating for five years and becoming the family’s laughingstock 1.

After awakening in the new body, Su Yu discovered the cause of the stagnation: a cracked ancient sword lodged in his Sea of Consciousness had been devouring his spiritual energy. Contact with the sword nearly consumed his consciousness, but a surge from his spiritual body subdued it and allowed his first breakthrough in years 1.

His father, Su Tianxing, disappeared five years before Su Yu’s transmigration. A letter later revealed that Su Tianxing had left Skywind City for the Great Zhou Kingdom to find Su Yu’s mother, Shen Yuening, who had been confined by the Shen Family because of her relationship with him 106. Su Yu eventually reunited with both parents after five years apart 127 269.

In his previous life on Earth, Su Yu lost both parents while young and relied on government assistance and scholarships to complete his education. He associates his rationality and resilience with those years of solitary study, while recognizing a similar persistence in the original host’s refusal to stop cultivating despite prolonged ridicule 6.

His visit to the Shen Family helped ease the estrangement between Shen Yuening and her father, Shen Linyuan, who permitted Su Tianxing to remain with her. Su Yu’s later reputation also strengthened the Shen Family’s position in Yun Jin City 127 415.

Despite his focus on strength, Su Yu is generous toward those he considers companions. He shares mission rewards with Yunxi, guides Su Yan, Su Mei, and Su Yun in their cultivation, and gives Yan Qingxuan valuable resources after their battles together 40 60 431.

His combat style reflects his patience and precision. He observes an opponent’s techniques for structural weaknesses, then expends only the force necessary to exploit them, as demonstrated by his three-sword defeat of Shi Chengyue’s defensive Profound Mountain True Body 533.

By New Year’s Eve in Tianhai City, Su Yu describes his motivation as having progressed from survival to protecting others and finally to reaching a level at which no one can casually decide the fate of those he loves 415.

He values independence without disregarding assistance already received. He refuses to develop a habit of relying on stronger protectors, but remains loyal to Elder Zhou and Luochen Sect when offered superior resources elsewhere. His caution also extends to Heavenly Sword Mountain because of its possible connection to Sword Elder’s past 439 571 580.
