Cultivation & Status
| Cultivation / Rank | Documented status |
|---|---|
| Ten-Year to Thousand-Year | Commonly found in forest outer circles; examples include Ice Silkworms, Snow Wolves, Ice Bears, Snowfield Deer, and Extreme Ice Lizards in the Far North 84 |
| Ten-Thousand-Year | Considered high-level; in the Far North, Soul Beasts below this threshold are not permitted into the Core Zone because its cold winds would destroy them 120 |
| Hundred-Thousand-Year | Powerful enough that one can generally contend with two Titled Douluo; the Far North alone has thirty-five known Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts 122 130 |
| Beast King | A territorial ruler whose authority depends on strength and subjects. Beast Kings generally accept submitted Soul Beasts into their territory, while driving out or killing those who refuse 71 |
| Fierce Beast | The pinnacle combat force of regions such as the Star Dou Great Forest; more than half of the Ten Great Fierce Beasts are based there 197 |
| Million-Year | An exceptionally rare level represented by Sky Dream Ice Silkworm; even this cultivation does not guarantee survival against the limits facing Soul Beasts 46 111 |
Intelligence & Society
Soul Beasts are not inherently a unified people. Predator and prey species may still regard one another as food even when ordered to fight together, making the idea of a single “Soul Beast race” imprecise in practice 36.
According to Golden Tortoise, intelligence is what distinguishes a true member of Soul Beast society from an instinct-driven creature. It was offered the chance to develop intelligence when it reached a thousand years; Soul Beasts without intelligence are treated by Beast Kings as food or slaves rather than kin 86.
Beast King Rule
- A Beast King maintains territory through force, but requires subordinate Soul Beasts to remain a king rather than a solitary predator 71.
- Only Beast Kings are permitted to approach the Ice God Throne during major assemblies in the Far North 121.
- Snow Empress commanded the entire Extreme North, including more than thirty Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts and the Beast Kings of its major clans 119 122.
- Di Tian rules the Star Dou Great Forest as the Beast God; his aura alone is sufficient to discipline Beast King-level conflicts in the Mixed Zone 132.
Relationship with Humans
Humans traditionally hunt Soul Beasts for Soul Rings and Soul Bones. Repeated harvesting has reduced the number of Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest, while human activity and Beast King influence can eliminate Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts from entire regions 71 197.
Soul Beasts also face Heavenly Tribulations. A Soul Beast that reaches the Hundred-Thousand-Year level may face its first tribulation roughly a thousand years later, and many cannot survive it even after the Far North's tribulations are reduced by thirty percent 122 174.
Soul Spirit Technology
Soul Spirit technology provides an alternative to killing a Soul Beast for a ring.
- A contracted Soul Beast enters a Soul Master's Sea of Consciousness as a Soul Spirit, preserving its soul, bloodline, and power rather than reducing it to a dead ring 194 225.
- A Soul Spirit can remain in its host's Soul Ring, use the Magic Net, or emerge to fight alongside its host 225.
- A single Soul Spirit can provide multiple Soul Rings because its power is retained, though this limits the number of Soul Spirits a Soul Master can accommodate 194 388.
- Contract Release allows a Soul Beast to end a contract when its host nears death and continue existing through Dream Coins 197.
- By the time Spirit Pagodas spread across most cities, Soul Spirits had become the standard method by which new Soul Masters advanced 388.
