Background / History

Wu Man operated the small restaurant near Xiao Ran’s shop after the previous owners left it in his care. Although his cooking was already exceptional, he deliberately chose the remote location because his culinary growth had stalled. He hoped that distancing himself from the bustle of the city would help him rediscover the essence of ingredients and simplify his craft 95 101.

He later became a tenant at 121 Bone Spirit Street. Xiao Ran granted him the property’s full privileges, including Spirit Suppression, which raises professional skills by half a level while at home. Wu Man considered the boost so valuable that he believed he could have advanced to Desire Chef much earlier had he obtained it sooner 166.

During the conflict with Huang Chao and the Locust God, Wu Man disclosed only part of his strength. He revealed the True Flavor Cauldron, converted the Locust God’s power into ingredients, and helped stall the deity’s manifestation until reinforcements arrived 355 357.

In Chang’an, Wu Man’s stalled advancement became a source of frustration. He learned that becoming an Inspiration Chef required an Inspiration Seasoning made from a caretaker’s tears, a heartless person’s inspiration, and a sufferer’s redemption. His attempts to obtain the needed materials led him to murder a tavern proprietress who tried to escape his scheme 478.

Wu Man later fought beside Xiao Ran against the Evil Spirit Emperor, using an assault rifle, beast transformations, and his cauldron to create openings for the group 489 491. He remained with Xiao Ran after the Chang’an conflict and continued to assist him across Lost Cities and other dangerous realms 493 578.

A Bewildering Barrier placed on him caused Wu Man to lose control and become a colossal wild boar. Xiao Ran subdued him rather than killing him, and the Green Raccoon Dog attempted to remove the affliction. Once recovered, Wu Man chose to fully oppose the Changchun Association alongside Xiao Ran 639 640 643.

In the Ghost Capital, Wu Man was separated from the group and became an Evil Spirit-like “Pig Head.” He protected Xiao Ran during the city’s descent into reality, battled multiple demon gods, and suffered severe physical and mental damage in the process 752 754 810. He later obtained the Tear of the Lover and Redemption of the Sufferer, leaving only the Inspiration of the Heartless needed for his advancement materials at that time 763 813.

Appearance

Wu Man has a fair, somewhat effeminate face contrasted by a notably well-proportioned, muscular physique. He can present himself neatly and elegantly in tailored clothing, but his combat transformations dramatically alter his body into massive beast-like forms 101 165 491.

  • Fair complexion and bright, clear eyes 101 162
  • Balanced musculature from chest to obliques 101
  • Often dresses sharply; wore an expensive fitted suit when meeting Xiao Ran on Bone Spirit Street 165
  • Can become a huge wild boar, giant ape, or hybrid beast forms 491 659 753
  • His wild-boar transformation can grow to the scale of a small mountain, with crimson skin, steel-like bristles, and dark-red Curse Marks 640

Personality

Wu Man is intensely devoted to cooking. He treats culinary criticism as a serious insult, eagerly identifies powerful beings as possible ingredients, and judges people by physical traits that he considers useful or aesthetically valuable for his craft 646 659 923 931.

His outward manner can be warm, calm, and sociable. He gives food to neighbors, prepares meals for Xiao Ran, and frequently jokes with companions. However, this friendliness is unreliable: he can become cold, manipulative, and violently cruel when his ambitions or interests are obstructed 162 478.

He is also stubbornly resilient. Even while severely injured by demon gods, Wu Man continued fighting rather than abandon Xiao Ran or accept the demon king’s offer to join the Netherworld 753 754. Despite his selfish and predatory tendencies, he distinguishes personal wrongdoing from betrayal of national interests and refuses to compromise with traitors 848.

Abilities & Skills

Culinary Arts

Wu Man’s primary profession path centers on cooking, ingredients, and the transformation of living or supernatural targets into food.

  • Reached the Desire Chef stage by the battle against the Locust God 355.
  • Later became a B-class Inspiration Chef 883 894.
  • Can perceive valuable ingredients within powerful creatures, including the treasures contained in a giant lightning fish 923.
  • His cooking can provide tangible benefits; a wisp of Life Essence prepared by him increased Xiao Ran’s Physique by 1 241.
  • His Dragon Broth restored his companions after they were weakened by the Sea of Thunder 928.
  • At an exceptional culinary peak, his cooking was described as “attaining the Way through natural creation” 869.

Ingredient Transmutation

Wu Man can process enemies, attacks, and materials as ingredients rather than conventional targets.

  • Compressed the Locust God’s surrounding energy into two golden apples, calling them an A-class ingredient 355.
  • Used the True Flavor Cauldron to devour an attack from the Locust God and later produced cotton candy from its power 355 357.
  • Released purple powder that transformed attacking Yin Soldiers into fruits and vegetables 665.
  • Turned more than a hundred bandits into produce with his B-class Professional ability 883.
  • Converted Yang Zuo, Yao Beasts, and parts of the City of All Beings into edible ingredients through his cauldron 660.

Beast Master Profession

Wu Man possesses the rare D-class Beast Master profession, which allows him to transform into and combine beast forms 491.

  • Wild Boar form — A colossal, high-strength form capable of driving back the Evil Spirit Emperor’s viper-worm body 491.
  • Beastial Strength — Beastifies portions of his body after taming a wild beast; Wu Man’s use of it greatly exceeds ordinary D-class Initiates 658.
  • Giant ape form — Uses the Beastification Dice to become a gorilla-like beast with overwhelming physical strength 659.
  • Composite beast form — Combined the bodies or traits of a bear, tiger, and goat while fighting demon gods 753.
  • His wild-boar form instinctively has the greatest resistance among his transformations, which was why he assumed it while mentally impaired by the Bewildering Barrier 643.

Physical Combat

Despite being a chef, Wu Man is an exceptionally dangerous close-range fighter.

  • Can physically distort or grip the surrounding void through raw force 355 491.
  • Held the Evil Spirit Emperor in place for several seconds at extreme personal cost, creating an opening for Xiao Ran and other fighters 491.
  • Tore apart Elder Li’s sword, extracted its metal essence, and used the resulting substance offensively 659.
  • Ripped Elder Li’s spine out with his bare hands before the Spirit God Cult could react 659.
  • Possesses knife skills cultivated to at least Grandmaster level after years of training 923.
  • Absorbed and integrated Huang Chao’s Heavenly Being physique, improving his physical ability and making the Beast Warrior path smoother 767.

Disguise and Infiltration

Wu Man is capable of using human skin to impersonate others.

  • Helped Shen Xuanjun escape Chang’an while retaining Shen’s skin for himself 480.
  • Wore Shen Xuanjun’s skin to enter the Sword Evaluation unnoticed 480.
