Background / History

The Ghost Tribe began invading the Xuan World thousands of years ago. Their precise origin is unknown, though Elder Yang considers it highly likely that they came from another world; records of them do not extend beyond roughly a thousand years. Humanity eventually destroyed most of the Tribe at immense cost, leaving only a small number dormant in scattered locations. 20

Ancient Ghost Tribe members left behind cultivation methods that gave rise to human ghost cultivators. These cultivators remain fundamentally human, but pursue longevity and immortality through killing intent and unorthodox arts. They formed Ghost Immortal City, whose ghost cultivators, manufactured ghostly creatures, and surviving Ghost Tribe members all work toward restoring the Tribe to the human world. 19 20

Gui Wuya’s emergence from a ghost nest marked the Tribe’s early reappearance. Unlike ordinary ghostly creatures, he possessed intelligence, speech, a name, and a nonhuman body; Elder Yang later identified him as one of the Ghost Tribe’s most ordinary members. Qin Hao killed him, alerting the Heavenly Dragon Guard to the returning threat. 16 19 20

Characteristics

The Ghost Tribe are not ghostly creatures. Their bodies are nonhuman and more robust than human bodies, while their members retain intelligence and the ability to communicate. 19 20

• Their forms vary greatly; documented members have had four arms, two heads, exposed bloodstains, horns, fangs, claws, wings, tails, or bodies covered in eyes. 14 111 131 155
• Their physical bodies are naturally stronger than those of humans at the same realm, creating a major disadvantage for equal-level human cultivators. 112
• Despite their physical strength, their souls are a major weakness; soul-targeting talismans can injure or destroy them. 113
• Tribe members consume human flesh, blood, and souls, treating civilians and captured cultivators as food. 110 111 112

Reawakening and Unsealing

Ghost Immortal City directed its agents to awaken dormant Ghost Tribe members and unseal imprisoned powerhouses across various empires. The rescue of the Seven Star Ghost Emperor was a central objective. 110

• Ghost cultivators were tasked with spreading slaughter and chaos throughout the Dragon Mountain Empire. 110
• Human flesh, blood, and souls were collected for sacrifices intended to open the gates of the Ghost Realm. 110
• The Tribe sought to restore its rule over the cultivation world rather than merely occupy individual cities. 110 111

Use of Ghostly Creatures

The Tribe creates some ghostly creatures from humans and uses them as expendable forces against humanity. 20

• A black altar and bead were used to control ghostly creatures and drain the true qi of opposing cultivators. 111
• Destroying the control bead caused the affected ghostly creatures to stop attacking and flee. 112
• During the Black Dragon City siege, Ghost Eye ordered the release and control of large numbers of ghostly creatures alongside the Tribe’s warriors. 117

Mass Invasion

The Tribe’s invasion force slaughtered civilians, occupied cities, imprisoned survivors as slaves and food, and pressed toward the Imperial Capital. 111 112 122

• Black Dragon City faced more than a hundred Deity Transformation-stage Ghost Tribe experts and hundreds of thousands of ghostly creatures. 115
• The Tribe later deployed hundreds of spatial rifts to bring stronger members into the Imperial Capital battlefield. 128

• Ghost Nest incident — Gui Wuya commands a ghost nest and attempts to recruit Qin Hao into the Ghost Clan before being killed by Qin Hao’s Thunderous Eight Trigrams. His corpse reveals the existence of the Ghost Tribe. 16 19 20
