Xu Yi manipulated the Black and White Emperor Lords and the Feng family into a conflict while gathering the power to transform and sever his corpse. After defeating the Fengs and escaping the Barren Frontier with his companions, Xu Yi emerged into the sea of stars only for their Starry Sky Boat to break apart.

• Xu Yi convinced Lu Wuji and Su Jiewu that he was an Immortal Envoy and won their help by offering a plan to find the Mysterious Monster and reach the Immortal Realm.
• Xu Yi brought Ka Shentong, Xuanzang, and Ning Wanren into the alliance, then led the gathered forces against Third Young Master Feng when his vessel arrived through the starry-sky passage.
• Third Young Master Feng killed Su Jiewu and unleashed the crystal beasts, while Xu Yi’s allies retreated to Two Kings Mountain and tried to resist the Feng army.
• As Third Young Master Feng’s offer of Immortal Realm positions broke the cultivators’ formation, Xu Yi refined the Fire Element Seeds and transformed into a Crimson Flame Thunder Monkey.

Xu Yi survived a hunt for the Four-Colored Seal, settled at Sishui Water Mansion, and helped Zhang Wenfeng and Zhang Bao'er through conflicts with Pan Feng and the Black Wind Ridge fiends. After a trap revealed that Dian Junming and Pan Wen had used their trust against him, Xu Yi broke free, rescued the Zhangs, and learned of a cave at Duiliu Mountain where thunder techniques were practiced.

• Xu Yi escaped the sects and clans hunting him, then triggered multiple immortal tribulations and endured them in his Crimson Flame Thunder Monkey form before collapsing from exhaustion.
• Xu Yi recovered by the river, explored the Four-Colored Seal and Dark Gourd, and settled into contact with Zhang Wenfeng and the Sishui Water Mansion.
• Xu Yi agreed to pretend to marry Zhang Bao'er to protect her from Pan Feng, then defeated Pan Feng's forces and helped bring him and his allies before the City God’s Mansion for punishment.
• Xu Yi followed Zhang Wenfeng's forces to Black Wind Ridge, where he defeated the Green Corpse Old Demon, Wumeng Old Demon, and Sword Frenzy Fiend.

Xu Yi mastered Thunder True Intent, killed Dian Junming and several officials, and broke through to the Dao Integration Realm. He secured an appointment as Anlu City God, but Mu Kuang confronted him over the deaths of Song Youlong and Cao Cangshui.

• Xu Yi found Thunder Cave, endured its lightning, and comprehended Thunder True Intent with the Crimson Flame Thunder Monkey before killing the cultivators who tried to eliminate him.
• Xu Yi infiltrated the Huaiyou City God Temple, killed Dian Junming and Lord Huaishi, and escaped the Netherworld Forbidden Area before confronting a terrestrial immortal and meeting Wang Buyi.
• Wang Buyi guarded Xu Yi as he broke through to the Dao Integration Realm, awakened the Twenty-Eight Mansions in both his bodies, and cultivated his main stars to perfection.
• Xu Yi joined the Lu family as a guest retainer, killed Dong Xiaoshan and Old Ancestor Kumoku during the battle with the Zhao family, and helped the Lu family claim the Spirit Spring.

Xu Yi gathered Incense Spirit Essence in Anlu, defeated the Ghost Immortals sent to seize it, and completed his quota. When the Eastern Judgment Prefecture moved against him, he killed several officials and withdrew to rebuild his body, leaving the Heavens’ Intent clearer to him.

• Mu Kuang questioned Xu Yi about the dead gods, but Xu Yi denied wrongdoing and entered Anlu City, where he used the Gold Order Talisman to make the City God statues resemble himself.
• Xu Yi defeated Liu Qingping and his allies after they sabotaged his incense offerings, then exposed their schemes and killed Liu Wenyuan and Liu Qingping when they plotted against him.
• Xu Yi ordered Tu Min and Xie Hua to serve the people through Anlu’s six temples, using medicinal pills to aid the seriously ill and draw worshippers.
• Xuan Zi’an and Sun Antong tried to rally Jiangnan cultivators against Xu Yi, but many fled after learning his identity and hearing that Mu Kuang’s department was investigating them.

• Xu Yi proved he had completed his quota, then admitted to destroying the statue and fought Mu Kuang’s officials, killing Jiang Yu, Zhou Mingfu, Su Shun, and Dong Chen before the surviving fighters retreated.
