Refinement and Control

Chakra Transformation

Chakra has five basic natures. Each produces a distinct result when infused into testing paper and restrains another nature 37.

• Nature Transformation strengthens a chakra nature; subsequent training increases how much can be changed at once and combines that change with a technique 37.
• Shape Transformation gives chakra the form of a technique, allowing control over its power and range. It can be combined with Nature Transformation 38.
• Using a Release technique that does not match one's chakra nature can fail or cause backlash 37.
• More complex transformations include Ice Release, a Kekkei Genkai, and Dust Release, which fuses Wind, Fire, and Earth chakra as a Kekkei Tōta 33 139.

Sage Chakra

• Sage Mode combines physical energy, spiritual energy, and absorbed Natural Energy in a 1:1:1 ratio to produce Sage Chakra. Too little Natural Energy prevents fusion; too much can transform the trainee into a snake 28.
• Senjutsu chakra can be used in techniques such as Zi Xu's Sage Art: Adamantine Sealing Chains. Unrefined Senjutsu Chakra injected into an opponent can cause petrification, as Naruto demonstrates against Preta Path 60 204.

Other Applications

• Chakra can be stored in tools for later release. Zi Xu considers such tools a way to give civilians means of self-defense 16.
• Chakra Bullets can carry different nature-based effects, including water needles, stone spikes, and explosions 112.
• Chakra Threads can control puppets or people; Sasori also weaves large numbers of threads into a cage 146 149.
