"Wow, it looks so nice! So beautiful!"
Mengmeng ran up and down the stairs several times, her face flushed with excitement.
"This is nothing yet. Once the paradise your dad is building for you is finished, you'll know what the most beautiful place in the world looks like." Zhang Han smiled and rubbed Mengmeng's little head.
"Daddy is the best!" Mengmeng stretched out her little arms and leaned into Zhang Han's embrace.
"Mwah, mwah, mwah." Mengmeng planted several kisses on Zhang Han's face.
"Hahaha!" Zhang Han burst into hearty laughter.
Wasn't everything he did for Mengmeng? Seeing the Little Princess so happy filled Zhang Han with satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.
Even when Zhang Han had possessed countless treasures, he had never experienced this kind of happiness.
So having a child really did change everything. Zhang Han loved and was infatuated with this kind of life. He no longer even thought about other matters. Whether he could cultivate immortality or search for treasures no longer mattered. As long as he had Mengmeng for the rest of his life, that was enough.
"Daddy, Daddy, I want the toys in the suitcase." After wandering around several times, Mengmeng ran up to Zhang Han and called out.
"All right, all right. I'll get your toys." Zhang Han smiled and shook his head.
He opened one of the suitcases. It was filled with all kinds of Mengmeng's toys, mostly fluffy little stuffed animals. Mengmeng had placed some in the living rooms and bedrooms upstairs and downstairs, so that no matter where she was, she could reach out and grab a toy. Only then did a satisfied smile appear on her face.
"Come on, Mengmeng. Daddy will take you to the supermarket," Zhang Han said.
"Okay! The supermarket! Carry me, Daddy. Daddy, carry Mengmeng." No matter where they went, Mengmeng was happy as long as she was with Daddy.
Zhang Han carried the Little Princess out, locked the restaurant door, and drove for five minutes to the supermarket not far from the street.
After parking the car, he had just gotten out when he saw a disabled man on the street beside the supermarket. The man lay facedown on a four-wheeled board. He had no legs and was missing one arm. With his only remaining hand, he held a small metal bowl containing a scattering of loose change.
"Ah!"
Mengmeng, who was in Zhang Han's arms, jumped in fright. She hid her head beside Zhang Han's neck and whispered, "Daddy, why, why doesn't he have hands and feet? He's so pitiful."
"Don't be afraid, Mengmeng."
Zhang Han reached out and stroked Mengmeng's head, then gave the man a casual glance.
"Please, spare some change..." the man murmured in a low voice.
Zhang Han paid him no attention and walked straight ahead.
"Mengmeng, we shouldn't pity other people, because they might not need our pity," Zhang Han said softly.
"But... um... but he doesn't have hands and feet..." Mengmeng said, pouting.
"That's his business. There are no pitiful people in this world without a reason. So if you see something like this in the future, you don't need to pay attention," Zhang Han said slowly.
"Oh... I understand."
Zhang Han carried Mengmeng into the supermarket.
The supermarket was part of a comprehensive shopping mall. The first through sixth floors sold various clothes and jewelry, the seventh floor was for food, and the eighth was for entertainment. The supermarket itself was on the basement level.
After taking the escalator downstairs, he pushed a cart at the entrance. The cart had a special seat for babies, so Zhang Han placed Mengmeng in it and began pushing her around the supermarket.
They definitely needed oil, salt, sauces, and vinegar. As they headed for the seasoning section, Mengmeng's eyes lit up when they passed the snack aisle.
"Daddy, I want that! Daddy, I want this..." Mengmeng pointed at various potato chips and other snacks.
"Sure. Daddy will get them for you." Zhang Han smiled slightly and grabbed more than ten bags in one go.
Mengmeng was delighted. Zhang Han had no doubt that if the Little Princess had been in his arms, she would have showered him with another round of kisses.
When he saw that Mengmeng still wanted more, Zhang Han shook his head and said in advance, "All right, Mengmeng. You can't eat too many snacks. This is enough."
"Huh?" Mengmeng was stunned. Her little mouth puckered up as she said in a childish voice, "That's all? It isn't enough for Mengmeng."
"I'll buy you more after you finish these." Zhang Han rubbed Mengmeng's little head.
"Hmm... all right." Mengmeng agreed reluctantly.
The Little Princess wasn't like some spoiled children who cried when they weren't bought what they wanted. Perhaps it was also because Mengmeng had grown up without a father. Now that she had finally returned to her father's side at more than three years old, she naturally cherished him a hundred times more and was very obedient.
Mengmeng's mood improved quickly. After walking a few steps, she began humming a little tune, her face filled with happiness.
When they reached the seasoning section, Zhang Han's gaze swept back and forth.
He knew which seasonings he needed, but he didn't know which brands to buy.
However, Zhang Han didn't bother with that. He basically chose whatever was expensive.
Oyster sauce, cooking wine, seafood soy sauce, light and dark soy sauce, white vinegar, aged vinegar, ketchup, bean paste, brown sugar and white sugar, thirteen-spice powder, and all kinds of other seasonings—Zhang Han picked up some of each.
There was no need to buy rice or flour, the staple foods, because New Moon Mountain had the best rice and wheat in the world.
He also bought some soybean oil, salad oil, corn oil, and the like, along with auxiliary ingredients such as garlic and ginger. That was more or less everything he needed from the seasoning section.
Zhang Han paid for the first batch, took the items back to the car, and returned for another round of shopping.
This time, he bought kitchen supplies.
Pots, bowls, and ladles were naturally indispensable. He bought a small amount of porcelain bowls and chopsticks, as well as some disposable meal boxes and chopsticks for guests to use if they came over.
He also picked out a wide variety of household items, such as refrigerator magnets, wall stickers, brooms, mops, towels, and bath towels.
Just as Zhang Han was pushing the cart toward the checkout counter,
in the vegetable section to the left ahead, a little boy about Mengmeng's age was sitting in another cart. The cart was being pushed by a strikingly beautiful woman, while beside her, an old man with graying hair who looked to be in his fifties was choosing vegetables.
As he picked through them, the old man's face suddenly turned ashen, and he appeared dizzy.
He covered his chest with his right hand and breathed heavily. His throat seemed to be trying to cough, but no cough came out. After struggling for a moment, he collapsed sideways onto the floor.
"Ah!"
The woman let out a shriek. "Dad, what's wrong? What's wrong? Dad, wake up..."
She panicked and screamed, "Help!"
The employees on the other side immediately ran over. A manager showed a hint of anxiety and said in a deep voice, "Don't move the old man. Pinch his philtrum first and press on his chest. Hurry. I'll call an ambulance now."
As he spoke, the man pulled out his phone and hurriedly dialed for an ambulance.
One of the two employees pressed on the old man's chest while the other pinched his philtrum. However, the employee pressing on his chest clearly didn't dare use much force and acted timidly.
The striking woman and the little boy cried anxiously nearby.
"What do I do? What do I do..." Even though she was a mother, the striking woman was completely at a loss.
"Daddy, carry me." Mengmeng nervously stretched out her little arms.
Zhang Han lifted Mengmeng into his arms with one hand and pushed the cart forward with the other.
"Daddy, what happened to that old grandpa?" Mengmeng asked softly with puffed cheeks.
"He might be sick."
Zhang Han answered her.
Although Zhang Han was only in the Qi Refining Stage, he could transmit a small amount of Spiritual Power through touch. With a quick examination, he could tell which part of the old man's body was having trouble.
But Zhang Han had no intention of meddling.
Deep in his eyes was a detached contempt for life, as though they were saying: That man's life or death has nothing to do with me.
Zhang Han had cultivated immortality for five hundred years and had witnessed countless deaths. Ordinary people were nothing but Ants. A powerful cultivator could destroy a planet with a single palm. The planet held countless people, many of whom should not have died, yet they perished at the hands of a powerful cultivator simply because they were as weak as Ants. Their lives and deaths depended on a powerful being's single thought.
Although Zhang Han had never done anything so destructive, he had witnessed such things before.
As Zhang Han passed near the crowd, the two employees pressing on the old man's chest and philtrum suddenly cried out,
"His breathing is getting weaker, and his hands and feet are starting to grow cold. What do we do?"
The manager's face went pale when he heard this. He was frightened. If someone died here, regardless of whether he was responsible, he would be affected.
"I'm a doctor. Let me take a look!"
A bespectacled middle-aged man in his forties pushed his way in from the outside.
After he spoke, the crowd quickly made way for him. He crouched beside the old man, lifted his eyelids to examine his pupils, then felt for a pulse at his wrist and neck before pressing on his chest twice more.
His brow gradually furrowed.
"What happened to my dad? Doctor, what happened to my dad?" the striking woman asked through tears.
"It doesn't look good. The symptoms may indicate heart and lung failure. If the ambulance doesn't arrive within five minutes, then..." The middle-aged man shook his head and sighed.
"Ah!" The striking woman let out a wail and burst into loud sobs.
"Waaah, Grandpa, Grandpa..." The little boy in the cart finally understood that his grandfather might be about to die. He began crying bitterly, and a bleak atmosphere descended over the scene. Sighs occasionally rose from the crowd.
Zhang Han carried Mengmeng and pushed the cart forward.
After walking a few steps, he noticed that Mengmeng had made no sound at all. He lowered his head to look and immediately saw that tears were about to fall from her eyes.
"Mengmeng..." Zhang Han paused, but before he could finish speaking, Mengmeng's little arms wrapped around him.
"Daddy..." Mengmeng choked out. "Daddy, you have to stay healthy. You can't get sick. Mengmeng can't be without you... They're so pitiful..."
Tears slipped from the corners of Mengmeng's eyes. It wasn't because the old man's condition had frightened her, but because seeing the little boy's sorrow had affected her mood.
Little did they know that Mengmeng's tears had saved the old man's life.
"Daddy won't get sick. Don't worry, Mengmeng. All right, don't cry. Be good." Zhang Han stroked Mengmeng's head, thought for a moment, then gently shook his head and said, "Don't cry, Mengmeng. How about Daddy wakes that old grandpa up?"
