Biology and Traits
The Human Race is an Acquired race with Innate Dao Bodies, rapid intelligence development, high fertility, and exceptional adaptability. Its early generations were physically frail, short-lived, and steadily weakened by diluted bloodlines. 76 88 258
- Humans are naturally weaker than most Innate Races, demons, witches, and Primordial Exotic Species.
- Their short lifespan and poor bloodline foundation make difficult cultivation methods impractical for much of the population. 88
- Their high reproduction rate allows them to recover from disasters that would eradicate other races. 76 88 258
- Human communities are repeatedly characterized by contradiction: selfishness and solidarity, cowardice and courage, greed and sacrifice coexist within the race. 88
- Later generations benefit from Human Dao Fortune, producing increasingly capable cultivators, officials, innovators, and rulers. 374 517
History
Creation and the Dark Age
Saint Nuwa initially molded three thousand Innate Humans from earth, then created another 129,600 through vines. Although the new race possessed Innate Dao Bodies and intelligence, Nuwa provided little continuing protection after their creation. 76
The Human Race was hunted by numerous Primordial Wilderness races, with rumors among demons that humanity had been created as food for the Demon Race. Natural disasters, ferocious beasts, famine, and hostile cultivators kept human tribes in a near-constant state of collapse. 76 77
The Witch Clan became humanity’s primary external protector, but this protection required payment and led to human dependence on Witch-Human bloodlines. Several early human Golden Immortals were born from unions between human women and the Witch Clan, an arrangement many human leaders viewed as a historical humiliation. 76 77
Qingyuan’s Intervention
Hong, an Innate Human who travelled from Buzhou Mountain to Kunlun, revealed humanity’s condition to Qingyuan. Qingyuan responded by visiting the East Sea Coast, protecting tribes, improving their cultivation methods, and searching for the Three Ancestors of Humanity. 76 78 86 88
After humanity’s leaders recognized Qingyuan’s sacrifices and his role in stabilizing Human Race Destiny, they swore to honor him as the Human Lord. Their oath bound the race’s future to Qingyuan’s authority and made his destiny inseparable from humanity’s survival. 93
The Human Race subsequently swore to end its dependence on stronger races and to “strive unceasingly” in the Primordial Wilderness. 94
Foundations of Civilization
Humanity’s first great civilizing figures emerged through Human Dao Merit:
| Figure | Contribution | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Suirenshi | Brought fire and the Everlasting Fire to humanity. | Became an Ancestor of Humanity and a Quasi-Saint. 77 135 |
| Ziyishi | Spread weaving, clothing, shame, and social rites. | Led humanity beyond barbaric survival into organized civilization. 135 |
| Youchaoshi | Spread treehouses, houses, walls, traps, patrols, and settlement defenses. | Became an Ancestor of Humanity and a Quasi-Saint through Human Dao Merit. 145 |
These developments gave scattered tribes durable shelter, protection from beasts and weather, clothing, social customs, and a shared civilizational foundation. 135 145
Witch-Demon Massacre and Recovery
During the Witch-Demon conflict, the Demon Race massacred the Human Race to strengthen the Witch-Slaying Sword, while the Witch Clan’s involvement further worsened the destruction. More than ninety percent of humanity was killed; the population fell from hundreds of billions or trillions to fewer than one million survivors. 233
Humanity’s pleas to Nuwa, Heaven, Earth, and the Saints went unanswered. In response, many humans renounced Nuwa as their Holy Mother and reaffirmed their loyalty to Qingyuan, whose disciples, temple deities, and Interception Sect allies fought to preserve the race. 233
Under Interception Sect protection, humanity recovered from fewer than a million survivors to hundreds of billions—approaching a trillion—within ten thousand years. 258
Protagonist of Heaven and Earth
The Dao Ancestor publicly declared the Human Race the current Protagonist of Heaven and Earth. This transformed humanity into the central source of future Human Dao Fortune and attracted the competing attention of the Human Sect, Chan Sect, Interception Sect, Western Teachings, and other major powers. 259 261
The declaration did not end outside interference. Major sects sought to spread their methods among humanity, assist future Human Emperors, and gain Human Dao Merit and Fortune Aura. 259 261 282
Human Dao and the Sovereigns
Fuxi united the East Sea Coast and most Human Tribes, earning recognition as their common ruler through governance and public service. 345
Human Dao Consciousness later manifested in dragon form and granted Fuxi the Human Dao Seal, which can command Human Dao Origin, control Human Race Fortune, punish beings tied to the Human Dao, and enthrone or depose Human Emperors. Fuxi declared himself the Human Emperor and rose from the True Immortal Realm to a Human Dao Quasi-Saint. 353
Humanity’s first era of unified rule created cities, academies, cultivation networks, Dragon Officials, trade, practical institutions, and early National Fortune centered on Fuxi City. 374 375
Great Xia and National Fortune
After controlling the floods, Yu became humanity’s common ruler and organized the realm into the Nine Provinces. 798
Yu later abolished the traditional abdication system, founded Great Xia, and made succession hereditary. The change was condemned by the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, particularly because Yu used Chan Sect support to suppress human opposition. 804
Great Xia’s creation produced the National Destiny Golden Dragon and National Fortune. This collective power protects recognized officials, suppresses hostile supernatural beings, and makes attacks against humanity costly even for powerful immortals and Saints. 804 811 812
Later Fragmentation
Despite periods of unity, the Human Race repeatedly returns to division, warfare, reunification, and renewed division. Human territories later fragmented into competing states after Great Shang’s collapse before Great Zhou reunited the Nine Provinces. 475 1253
The race’s internal conflicts are treated by the wider Primordial Wilderness as relatively minor, but its special status as Protagonist of Heaven and Earth continues to protect it from open extermination. 1253
Cultivation Systems
Qi Cultivation Technique
A simplified method perfected and spread by Qingyuan across the East Sea Coast.
- Uses the body as a furnace to refine spiritual energy, Source Qi, and vital energy.
- Is easier for ordinary humans to understand than the Golden Core Great Dao.
- Allows humans with weak bloodlines and average aptitude to cultivate.
- Produces Earth Immortals, Celestial Immortals, Mystic Immortals, and Golden Immortals among human tribes. 88
Divine Path
A faith-based cultivation system centered on altars, divine fire, worship, and the Human Lord.
- Temples and clay idols protect tribes from demons, ghosts, monsters, and calamities.
- The number and sincerity of believers determine the Divine Path’s scale.
- Qingyuan distributed Divine Source among a million human tribes rather than retaining all accumulated faith for himself. 104 106
- The path is less effective offensively than conventional cultivation, but provides widespread protection and a route to godhood or immortality. 106
Martial Path
A body-refinement system created for humanity that develops blood, bones, meridians, apertures, physical strength, and willpower.
| Martial Realm | Comparable Immortal Realm |
|---|---|
| Martial Dao True Sea | Earth Immortal |
| Martial Dao True Body | Celestial Immortal |
| Martial Dao Yin God | True Immortal |
| Martial Dao Yang God | Mystic Immortal |
| Martial Dao Dharma Aspect | Golden Immortal |
| Martial Dao True Realm | Grand Unity Golden Immortal |
| Martial Dao True Self | Daluo Golden Immortal |
The Martial Path requires an unyielding temperament and an unbreakable Dao heart. Its inheritances were initially guarded by the Primordial Martial Dao Eternal Determination Stele, whose branch steles allowed the method to spread between tribes. 107 110 111
Later Traditions
By the post-tribulation era, human cultivators practiced multiple traditions alongside Qi Cultivation, Divine Path, and Martial Path.
- Golden Core Great Dao
- Shangqing Immortal Method
- Temple-based cultivation
- Alchemy and related practical arts 259 283 375
Society and Institutions
- Human Lord Decree — An order issued in Qingyuan’s name; its authority can mobilize Martial Path and Divine Path factions that may ignore the Human Emperors. 411
- Human Dao — The collective authority, destiny, merit, and spiritual will of humanity. It empowers Human Emperors and strengthens as the race prospers. 353 374
- Human Dao Seal — Fuxi’s supreme Human Dao treasure, granting authority over Human Race Fortune and imperial succession. 353
- National Fortune — Great Xia’s collective national power, embodied by the National Destiny Golden Dragon and strengthened through the Nine Provinces Cauldrons. 804 811
- Currency — Fuxi, Shennong, and Randeng created standardized destiny-infused Money Shells to replace inefficient barter and support trade between regions. 411 412
- Dragon Officials — Dragon Clan representatives who assist human governance, protect territories, and help regulate weather and waterways. 353 374
Relationships
- Saint Nuwa — Creator of the Human Race. Her absence during humanity’s early suffering and later massacre caused many humans to reject her as their Holy Mother. 76 233
- Qingyuan / Human Lord — Humanity’s principal protector, teacher, and spiritual authority; he introduced cultivation systems, supported the Three Ancestors, and became bound to Human Race Destiny. 93 94 352
- Interception Sect — Longstanding protector of humanity. Its immortals and disciples defended human survivors, spread teachings, and deterred other factions from interfering with the race’s recovery. 233 258
- Witch Clan — Early protector and exploiter of humanity. The clans’ past shelter enabled human survival, but dependence and Witch-Human relations remained a source of resentment. 77 283
- Demon Race — Historic enemy responsible for predation, mass slaughter, political manipulation, and later demonic calamities against human civilization. 76 233 798
- Dragon Clan — Major ally and later rival. Dragons protected human territory and aided agriculture and weather, but their relationship deteriorated after internal conflict and war. 353 454
- Human Sect and Chan Sect — Competing sects that sought influence over humanity through cultivation teachings, protection, and involvement with the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. 259 374
