Background / History

The Heavenly Emperor arranged Ye Xuan's marriages to Imperial Daughters as part of a plan to develop Ye Xuan's Nine Lightning Tribulation Heavenly Body. The body requires Emperor blood to fuse with its nine lightning bolts and withstand the Heavenly Dao; the arrangement was therefore intended to secure Ye Xuan's eventual Emperor's Path rather than merely serve clan interests. 26

Forty thousand years before Ye Xuan's arrival, the Heavenly Emperor visited Penglai Imperial Sect and told its old Sect Master that his descendant would someday seek an audience. He also foresaw that the Three Thousand Dao Provinces would fall into disorder after his departure. 338

At the Immortal Ascension Path, Bai Yujing sealed himself at its entrance, blocking the Heavenly Emperor's ascent. The Heavenly Emperor subsequently severed the path's entrance so that no one else could ascend through it, then created the Ascending Sky Ladder. 345

He later sought to ascend again for three stated reasons: to protect Ye Xuan, find Ye Xuan's mother, and save all beings. 345
