Background / History
Long Aotian was the young sect master and a celebrated prodigy of the Elephant Armor Sect. At roughly eighteen or nineteen years old, he openly dismissed Zhang Bufan's reputation and declared that his Diamond Mammoth Martial Soul would prove him the stronger man. His public challenge in a border-town restaurant ended when Zhang Bufan stopped his strongest strike with one finger and flicked him through several walls. 80 81
The defeat shattered Long Aotian's pride but did not turn him resentful. Recognizing the gulf between their strength, he knelt and demanded to become Zhang Bufan's subordinate. Zhang accepted, telling him to address him as “Brother Fan” rather than “Boss.” 82
He quickly proved useful as a bodyguard, laborer, and frontline fighter. While traveling with Zhang Bufan, Huo Wu, and Yue Ling'er, he carried the group's equipment, handled camp duties, practiced Zhang's advice on force control, and consistently placed himself between the group and danger. His directness and diligence earned the others' trust. 83
Long Aotian later became Bufan Academy's Dean of Instruction and led its Assault Tactics Class, where he emphasized physical conditioning, frontal combat, resilience, and coordinated formations. He was also appointed Director of the Bufan Chamber of Commerce, despite Zhang Bufan's acknowledgement that Long Aotian needed supervision in business matters. 104 120 234
When his uncle Long Bahu attempted to split the Elephant Armor Sect and push it toward Martial Soul Hall, Long Aotian sought Zhang Bufan's help rather than abandoning his father and sect. Zhang Bufan's intervention crushed the rebellion, secured the sect's allegiance to the Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_11035626@@ Hall Alliance, and strengthened Long Aotian's standing among his clansmen. 269 271 274
As the Bufan Empire expanded, Long Aotian developed from a rough instructor into a major military and administrative figure. Zhang Bufan entrusted him with commanding formation training, accompanying state visits, overseeing military affairs, and serving as acting Emperor during the Divine Trial at Sea God Island. 266 314 338 339
During the war against Martial Soul Hall, he commanded Allied Forces on the ground and continued fighting after losing his right arm. His leadership and determination helped turn battlefield disruptions into decisive victories. 402 407 412
Zhang Bufan ultimately selected Long Aotian as his successor. Though initially overwhelmed and reluctant to accept the throne, Long Aotian was crowned Emperor, inaugurated the Xinglong era, and ruled alongside Empress Yue Ling'er. 470 471
Appearance
Long Aotian is an exceptionally large, heavily built man whose physique reflects the Elephant Armor Sect's defense-focused martial tradition. He is described as nearly two and a half meters tall, with muscles “like coiled iron” and a voice compared to a booming bell. 80
- Massive, tower-like build that makes him resemble a personal bodyguard even in civilian settings. 83 86
- Short-haired or bald in later appearances. 314 333
- Initially wears luxurious young-sect-master attire; later appears in Bufan Academy's instructor uniform and imperial military equipment. 82 124 412
- Loses his right arm during the war but remains active as a one-armed commander and combatant. 295 401 412
Personality
Long Aotian begins as proud, impulsive, and easily provoked. His desire to establish himself as the strongest of his generation leads him to underestimate Zhang Bufan, while his initial confrontation is partly driven by jealousy and a need to impress Huo Wu and Yue Ling'er. 80 81
After his defeat, he becomes intensely loyal, candid, and eager to learn. He has little patience for subtlety, favors direct solutions, and frequently measures his own worth through hard work, protection, and usefulness to Zhang Bufan's group. 82 83
Though often simple-minded and comically overenthusiastic, he matures into a responsible instructor, commander, and ruler. He can discipline arrogant Soul Masters, make practical battlefield decisions, and accept duties that frighten him because Zhang Bufan and the Empire depend on him. 267 383 470

Formation Instruction and Military Command

- Wields a single-armed Thunder War Hammer during the war. 401
- Fights Bibi Dong with an injury-for-injury style, using lightning and a Banishing attribute that interferes with Rakshasa Divine Power. 401
- Retains combat command despite severe wounds and the loss of his right arm. 412
