Background / History
The Uchiha were divided between Radical, Middle, and Moderate Factions during the conflict with Konoha’s leadership. The Radical Faction, initially associated with Elder Uchiha Setsuna and later led by Uchiha Jin, opposed accommodating the village authorities; the other factions initially sought stability and trusted Sarutobi Hiruzen’s promises. 2
Under Jin’s leadership, the Radical Faction became organized and fortified its own section of the compound, effectively creating a “state within a state.” His influence subsequently spread to most of the Moderate and Middle Factions. 10 24
Jin argued that the clan’s enemy was not Konohagakure as a whole, but Sarutobi Hiruzen’s faction, its allied families, Anbu, and Root. This distinction persuaded the clan elders to unite behind him and enabled the Uchiha to gain support from other dissatisfied shinobi clans. 26 27
The clan reclaimed its ancestral grounds in the village center, while Jin moved into Uchiha Madara’s former residence. The relocation restored the Uchiha’s presence in Konoha but also heightened civilian fear and political tension. 33 34
As more clans defected to the Uchiha camp, the Uchiha Compound became a crowded political and military center. Jin integrated allied clans into mixed tactical units rather than allowing them to remain entirely separate. 73
The clan eventually participated in the founding of New Konohagakure, with Jin as Hokage. After gaining political power, many Uchiha abandoned administrative posts and the Military Police Force, preferring combat and training to bureaucratic work. 108 117
Clan Characteristics
The Uchiha are described as emotionally intense and fiercely loyal to those who genuinely befriend them. Their powerful emotions can also become dangerous after the loss of loved ones. 73
- Their reputation for arrogance and instability is attributed in part to long-term exclusion and pressure from Konoha’s leadership. 73 401
- Clan members historically had freedom to join internal factions, but remained subject to clan rules and the authority of the Clan Head in internal affairs. 50
- Their battlefield mortality under Sarutobi Hiruzen’s administration was alleged to be more than ten times that of other clans, which Uchiha elders interpreted as deliberate attrition. 401
- The clan’s political reform centered on targeting Konoha’s higher-ups while avoiding attacks on ordinary civilians and other shinobi clans. 394
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the Uchiha clan’s defining dōjutsu. Extreme emotional circumstances can awaken it, contributing to the clan’s ability to survive severe losses. 401
- Uchiha Jin was regarded as a Mangekyō-level powerhouse by his followers. 2
- The clan’s Sharingan users were summoned to Naka Shrine during Fugaku’s attempted celebration and consolidation effort. 8
- The Uchiha stone tablet can be read differently depending on the reader’s ocular power; Fugaku states that the Mangekyō version references combining Uchiha and Senju power to awaken the Rinnegan. 153
Mangekyō Sharingan
Several clan members possess or awaken Mangekyō Sharingan, making the dōjutsu a decisive factor in the Uchiha’s political and military survival.
- Fugaku used his Mangekyō to seal Shisui and Itachi’s chakra, and later employed a time-slowing technique against Obito. 50 400
- Shisui wielded a transplanted Mangekyō capable of countering Obito’s Kamui. 396
- Mangekyō use places immense strain on an insufficiently developed body; Jin advises Itachi to build his physique before pursuing its power. 169
Uchiha Flame Formation
The clan can deploy a large-scale Uchiha Flame Formation for compound defense.
- During Root’s assault, Uchiha forces used Shadow Clones to misdirect the attackers before trapping Root personnel within the formation. 400
Sealing Techniques
Fugaku possesses unusual proficiency in sealing techniques.
- He used an Uzumaki Four Symbols Seal to suppress Shisui and Itachi’s chakra. 52
- The seal’s key differs by user; even another practitioner cannot release it without Fugaku’s key. 52

Story Role / Major Arcs
Internal Faction Conflict
The Uchiha’s internal divisions emerge during clan meetings over Root and Anbu casualties. Jin’s Radical Faction challenges Fugaku’s authority, while Shisui and the Moderate Faction advocate cooperation with the Hokage. 2 3 13
Unification Under Uchiha Jin
Jin’s explanation of Konoha’s internal factions changes the clan’s perspective. The Uchiha cease treating every villager and clan as an enemy and instead consolidate against the ruling higher-ups. 26 27
Return to the Ancestral Grounds
The clan returns to its original territory in Konoha’s center. Jin organizes defense and search operations, while the elders recognize his status by installing him in Madara’s former mansion. 33 34
Coalition and New Konohagakure
Other shinobi clans join the Uchiha camp, and the Uchiha become the core of New Konohagakure. The withdrawal of major clans leaves Old Konohagakure unable to risk open war. 73 108 111
Alternate-Plane Uchiha Massacre Crisis
Through the Hongmeng Tower’s Travel Function, Shisui is sent to another plane’s Uchiha massacre night. There, the clan evacuates non-combatants, deceives Root with Shadow Clones, annihilates Root attackers, and unites under Shisui after Fugaku abdicates. 387 392 400 401
Standoff with Sarutobi Hiruzen
Under Shisui’s leadership, the alternate-plane Uchiha threaten total war rather than accept extermination. Hiruzen ultimately yields to their demand to return to their original clan grounds. 402 404
Trivia
