Amid the helicopter's whirring rotors, Bai Yang spoke through its loudspeaker. "Little White Whale, try to see if you can leave the ship."
"Leave the ship? Young Master Bai, this..." Little White Whale's guard glanced at the scene of countless creatures struggling beyond the gunwale and hesitated.
Jiang Nan said impatiently, "We're not asking you to get off the ship. Just see if you can get beyond its boundaries."
Little White Whale and the others understood. They hurried to the gunwale, grabbed it with both hands, and tried to climb over. But it was as if an invisible barrier blocked the edge. There was clearly nothing there, yet they couldn't get beyond the ship.
"Mr. Bai, we can't get out! Could this be what you humans call being stuck on a pirate ship?" Little White Whale's guard cried in alarm, turning back.
What a damn pirate ship. Bai Yang nearly rolled his eyes. Before the helicopter had even landed, he tried flying it beyond the ship, but the result was the same. Nothing visible blocked them, yet they couldn't leave the ship's bounds.
They could get onto this ship, but not off it—just as they'd been unable to put any distance between themselves and the ship when they fell into the water!
