Seizing the Credit

His whole body shuddered. Feeling the godlike authority emanating from Bai Yang, the young bodyguard nearly collapsed to the ground.

He no longer hesitated. Breaking into a cold sweat, he said, "The people Governor-General Bai asked about are in a bad situation!"

"How bad?" Bai Yang asked, his composure returning.

The young bodyguard swallowed. "From what we've learned so far, they were imprisoned for crimes including defying their superior, assaulting their superior, and causing a disturbance in the barracks."

"Defying a superior, assaulting a superior, causing a disturbance in the barracks. We're at war now. Under martial law, those are offenses punishable by death ten times over, yet they were merely imprisoned. There must be more to this than meets the eye." Bai Yang sneered.

"We're investigating as quickly as we can. The detailed report should arrive before long," the bodyguard replied uneasily. Bai Yang frightened him terribly; he was drenched in sweat and didn't dare raise a hand to wipe his brow.

He'd met Bai Yang before and thought he seemed like an easygoing peer. But when Bai Yang had revealed that terrifying aura, he'd finally understood what a Heavenly Master was like. Every move could shake the heavens and earth!

Bai Yang stood and said in a low voice, "As Grand Governor-General of the entire army, I have the right to inquire into anything, don't I?"

"Of course," the young bodyguard said uneasily. His heart leaped. Bai Yang's attitude could mean serious trouble was brewing!

Bai Yang nodded. "Good. Where are they being held? Take me there."

"They aren't being held in the prefectural capital. They're in Niujiao Commandery, eight thousand miles away. Please follow me, Governor-General." The young bodyguard turned to lead the way, still uneasy.

Bai Yang followed him with Blood Infant, Yaya, Red Ball, and
