Besieged

Around the forbidden zone stood four cities, holding down the monsters within it. Though they had never been officially named, they had existed for several Yuan, and over time people had come to call them the Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern Guard Cities.

Not long after they arrived, the city gradually began to grow "lively."

The four Guard Cities lay deep in the forbidden zone, almost completely cut off from the outside world. Of the people who lived in the city, sixty percent were troops stationed there by the Great Light Dynasty, while another thirty percent were sent by sects throughout the dynasty to serve as Town Guardians. The remaining ten percent were people who had trickled in over the several Yuan since the city was founded.

One thing worth noting was that nine out of ten of that final ten percent had not come here willingly. They had been exiled here for committing serious crimes. The last tenth were lawless types who lived by the blade and had come looking for excitement.

People did occasionally come here, but not many. Today, however, wave after wave of outsiders had arrived in South Town City, something that had never happened before.
