"No. My foolish father is panicking over the disappearance of the Chaos Gods. He's performing an even larger Chaos ritual, searching for traces of the Dark Gods. He claims the Four have only gone into hiding temporarily and will soon return, but we all know they were destroyed by the Emperor.
"Even if they do return, it won't change anything."
Word Bearer Captain Otranto looked up at the towering primarch. A rare lucidity gleamed in his crimson eyes.
"The facts have proved that only the Emperor is the truth of the universe. The loyal Word Bearers yearn to return to the Imperium's embrace!"
He spoke not for himself alone, but for a portion of the Chaos Legions.
Magnus smiled coldly. "Unlike the Thousand Sons, yours was the first Legion to betray the Imperium—and your betrayal came from the top down. You led Horus and the other Legions into the clutches of the Chaos Gods. What makes you think the Imperium will forgive you?"
"The Emperor's magnanimity. If the Imperium had no intention of accepting us, I would have been burned to ashes the moment I appeared before you!" Captain Otranto replied, then added at once:
"The Word Bearers are the most zealous and loyal priests. We can give everything for our faith! If we worship the Emperor, then we'll be the finest missionaries."
Magnus watched Otranto in silence. The traitor wasn't lying. After all, when the Word Bearers Legion had betrayed the Imperium and the Emperor, the worlds they had once preached to had resisted the Legion most fiercely.
"We are a new generation of Word Bearers. We have no irreconcilable hatred toward the Imperium, and we're willing to help the Imperium set a trap. We'll atone for our past sins with the traitors' flesh and souls!" Captain Otranto said
