Overview

NPCs are non-Natural Person inhabitants of the New Universe. They can be purchased or refreshed through clone factories, appear within pirate, rebel, monster, and other NPC factions, and fill most operational roles aboard warships and in civilian or military organizations 2 9.

They are a vital source of manpower because Natural Persons generally occupy high-value positions such as captains, while NPCs serve as gunners, pilots, damage-control personnel, soldiers, engineers, scientists, and workers 9 514. NPC fleets are also a recurring hostile force and provide combat experience, loot, and recruitment opportunities for the Meteor Mercenary Group and later the Dragon Soul Empire 2 118 153.

Characteristics

  • NPCs can respawn, and civilians may purchase NPC assistants from Federation clone shops 2.
  • Their skill ceilings are generally lower than those of Natural Persons: most stop at Advanced, around 10% reach Expert, and Master- or Grandmaster-level NPCs are exceptionally rare 324.
  • Newly created clones are commonly talentless and unskilled, with inferior aptitude and dull intellect; they can nevertheless develop through survival, social exposure, training, and combat 334.
  • Wild or faction-affiliated NPCs may possess rare talents, Master-level professional skills, Psionic potential, or leadership abilities 26 38 118 169.
  • NPC captains are considered tactically inflexible; training one to a high level through real combat is costly and dangerous 9.
  • Spawned NPCs may have weaker but comparatively less impure souls than Natural Persons, making them susceptible to soul-tempering methods such as Dragon Flame 155.
  • High-level NPCs are not necessarily more intelligent or independent; some powerful spawned NPCs remain instinct-driven and difficult to communicate with 472.

Development and Training

Combat Experience

NPCs can improve rapidly in actual combat. Lin Zhichen's three Beginner gunners advanced to Intermediate after a single pirate ambush, while Gunner DQXJ later reached Advanced proficiency and gained the Precision skill 2 4.

Under Mind Resonance, numerous NPC crew members broke through from Master to Grandmaster—the highest documented mortal professional level—and improved their talents and combat efficiency 34.

Cultivation and Psionic Awakening

Lin Zhichen teaches his NPC crews an ancient body-refining technique and intends to form Psionic Trooper Units from them 10. Without accelerants, NPC cultivation to Psionic awakening may require 30–40 years; NZT-50 can greatly accelerate the process at a cost of 420 Energy Coins per person 22.

Later methods of cultivation include:

  • Dragon Flame tempering — strengthens NPC souls, but ordinary NPCs would be incinerated immediately and most NPC Psionicists can endure only seconds at a time 155.
  • Ether Dragon egg vitality — used in closed-door training to accelerate awakening; an NPC sniper becomes the first successful Psionicist cultivated by this method 90.
  • Evil Energy environments — can trigger battlefield awakenings, particularly among soldiers with several Grandmaster-level skills 247.
  • Mass Dragon Flame purification — awakens 34 Psionicists among tens of thousands of soldiers, including one Elite-tier individual 250.
  • Star Spirit Body and refreshed clones — Imperial NPCs possess a Red-grade Star Spirit Body; approximately one in 100,000 can awaken, allowing the Empire to gain roughly 1,000 Psionicists per day 410.

Roles

Military Personnel

NPCs serve as the bulk of ship crews and ground forces. Common roles include gunners, pilots, radar observers, damage-control crew, marines, clone soldiers, and infantry 2 5 514.

  • Elite NPC crews can operate under Mind Resonance with greatly improved coordination and learning speed 34 57.
  • Psionicized Imperial crews can make warships substantially more effective; even damage-control posts may be staffed by Psionicists 590.
  • Ordinary NPC recruits are frequently deployed as frontline personnel after brief training, unlike Natural Persons, who commonly begin as officers 514.
  • Certain rejected or low-value NPCs are recruited and equipped as power-armored shock troops because of their exceptional physical and combat traits 718.

Specialists

Rare NPC specialists are strategically valuable and are actively sought from clone markets, battlefields, and enemy factions.

  • Scientists — Li Heng, a Yellow-talent scientist, possesses Matter Reorganization and can reorganize matter with psionic energy 38 41.
  • Draftsmen — Draftsman DKXXHTS reaches Master level and holds authority to draft civilian products and warships from frigates through dreadnoughts 64.
  • Engineers — Engineer BGGCS possesses the Leader talent and Space Construction, improving the construction speed of space facilities 169.
  • Psionicists — NPC Psionicists can be recovered from battlefields, captured from hostile fleets, summoned through Psionic items, or cultivated internally 130 238 259.
  • Leaders — Rare leader-type NPCs can bind and guide up to a defined number of subordinates, though their assigned capacity does not return if the leader dies 169.

NPC Factions

NPC forces include pirates, rebel armies, monster fleets, Jedi and Sith nations, and other organized factions. Although these groups fight one another, pirate and rebel NPC factions share a tendency to drive out Natural Persons when faced with external encroachment 27 479.

Exceptional NPC leaders, such as Pirate Kings and Rebel Army Marshals, may rise from concentrated populations of Evolvers in special Dark Galaxy bases rather than appearing through ordinary refresh mechanisms 46.

Notable NPCs

  • Gunner DQXJ — A 19-year-old gunner who progresses from Intermediate to Advanced and later reaches Grandmaster-level artillery proficiency under Lin Zhichen's training 2 4 34.
  • Li Heng — Yellow-talent scientist specializing in Matter Reorganization; awakens directly as an Elite Psionicist 38 41.
  • Draftsman DKXXHTS — Master Draftsman granted Psionic awakening, capable of drafting major civilian and military hull classes 64.
  • Engineer BGGCS — Elite space-construction engineer with a leadership talent affecting up to one hundred subordinate engineers 169.
  • Wang Qingfeng — Rescued NPC scientist with ship-cannon design expertise and psionic potential 118.
  • Yuri X — An NPC psychic specialist who converts hostile NPC bases and later becomes a peak-Legendary figure with potential for Sage ascension 416 490.
  • Count Philip — A former NPC monster Sage converted into a loyal Imperial count after prolonged psychic reform 492 493.
