Background

Gu Nian arrived in the Douluo Continent confused and helpless, but spent many years building himself into a ruler of a nation and the master of Sunset Forest. His rise was enabled by the Martial Soul Evolution system in his mind, whose sole function is to determine the most suitable evolutionary path for a Martial Soul 1.

His own Blue Silver Grass followed the path from Blue Silver Emperor to Blue Silver Saint King and ultimately the unique Blue Silver God King. At its peak, the Martial Soul is described as the embodiment of life laws in the natural world: plants serve as Gu Nian’s eyes, ears, believers, and weapons 1 63.

Gu Nian established himself at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in Sunset Forest, where his connection to the forest allows him to replenish expended life energy through the land itself. He sometimes concealed this advantage to allow others—particularly Ah Yin—to resolve their own past and karma 61.
