Yang Jian was slaughtering his way through Lion Camel Ridge, and the Jade Emperor, back in the Heavenly Court, was not idle either.
Last time in Lingxiao Palace, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi actually called the Jade Emperor unkind and then left with a bunch of people.
The Jade Emperor remembered this grudge.
Heavenly Court.
Tushita Palace.
The Jade Emperor, in disguise, was strolling and happened to walk to Tushita Palace.
"Your Majesty, please stop."
Just as the Jade Emperor was about to push open the doors of Tushita Palace, two young attendants at the entrance stopped him.
"Hmm? In this Heavenly Court, someone dares to block me?" The Jade Emperor glared with majestic fury, his imperial aura surging. With just a look, he sent the two attendants flying, causing them to spit blood and collapse on the ground.
"To think the dignified Jade Emperor would attack two young attendants, have you no shame?"
The doors of Tushita Palace opened, and Grand Supreme Elder Laozi stepped out.
"Laozi, you're twisting the truth. It was these two blind fools who dared to obstruct the imperial carriage; their crimes are unforgivable," the Jade Emperor said with a light chuckle.
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi flicked his horsetail whisk, reviving the two attendants, then stared at the Jade Emperor with displeasure: "I think you're the one twisting the truth. Can't you see this plaque?"
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi pointed to the plaque hanging at the entrance of Tushita Palace.
On the plaque was written in large characters: "Closed to visitors, Heavenly Emperor forbidden."
Damn it!
The Jade Emperor's lips twitched; he almost cursed the old man.
This plaque wasn't there moments ago. This old man had conjured it up on the spot.
Shameless.
"You old scoundrel, you're truly cunning."
"You little brat, you're not bad yourself."
Neither of them would back down in their verbal sparring.
"Enough, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi. I've come alone this time because I want to give you another chance, a chance with boundless prospects," the Jade Emperor waved his hand, not wanting to bicker with this disrespectful elder, and got straight to the point.
"What do you mean?"
"Let's talk inside."
The Jade Emperor pushed open the doors of Tushita Palace, entered the room, and with a wave of his hand, brought over a pot of Golden Pills using his magic power. He then poured the Golden Pills into his hand like beans, tossing them into his mouth one by one, as if eating peanuts.
He truly didn't consider himself an outsider.
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi didn't stop him.
"I've come today mainly to invite you, Laozi, for a cup of tea," the Jade Emperor said, lightly adjusting his dragon robe and sitting in the main seat.
"You truly have a lot of leisure time. Lion Camel Ridge destroyed the pilgrimage team, and killed the Green Mane Lion, the Yellow Tusk Elephant, and the Golden Winged Great Peng. Aren't you worried that Tathagata Buddha will come knocking on your Lingxiao Palace later?"
"What? The Journey to the West team was annihilated? How come I didn't know?"
The Jade Emperor was shocked and pointed at Grand Supreme Elder Laozi, scolding him: "You old Daoist with a bull nose, you're framing me!"
"..."
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi's face darkened. Is this the Jade Emperor? He's practically a rogue.
Seeing Grand Supreme Elder Laozi flustered, the Jade Emperor chuckled inwardly: "Come, I've recently collected some new tea leaves. I brought them specifically for you, Laozi, to try."
The Jade Emperor waved his hand, producing some tea leaves, and began to brew tea.
As the Jade Emperor took out the tea leaves, a glint flashed in Grand Supreme Elder Laozi's eyes.
These tea leaves are no ordinary thing!
And there was a familiar feeling.
After picking up the teacup and taking a sip, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi was startled: "Enlightenment Tea?"
"That's right, Enlightenment Tea," the Jade Emperor said with a smile. "How is it? Does it taste good?"
"The tea is naturally good," Grand Supreme Elder Laozi said. "As far as I know, only Dao Ancestor Hongjun has a small stash of this Enlightenment Tea left. Did you go back to Zixiao Palace and steal something?"
"Don't talk nonsense. Within the Three Realms, wherever the sun and moon shine, it all belongs to me. Do I need to steal things?" The Jade Emperor's presence was imposing and self-assured, his imperial aura exuding immense pressure.
Arrogant!
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi sneered: "Then where did it come from?"
The Jade Emperor producing the Enlightenment Tea indeed startled Grand Supreme Elder Laozi.
He himself had drunk Enlightenment Tea in Zixiao Palace. Currently, Enlightenment Tea leaves were extremely rare, possessed only by the Dao Ancestor.
The Jade Emperor's brazen actions made Laozi suspect that the Dao Ancestor was behind him.
He couldn't help but continue probing.
The Jade Emperor smiled: "Where it came from is not important. What's important is that as long as you, Laozi, submit to me and pledge your loyalty unto death, I will let bygones be bygones, and you can drink this Enlightenment Tea to your heart's content."
Serve? Swear eternal loyalty?
As if! I never even considered bowing to Dao Ancestor Hongjun!
And you expect me to do it for you, Jade Emperor?
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi chuckled, shaking his head. "With just this much tea, you can brew two more pots and be done. You have quite the appetite. What a bold statement."
"Is this not enough?"
Bang.
The Jade Emperor chuckled lightly and tossed a sack in front of Grand Supreme Elder Laozi.
What the—!
Seeing the Jade Emperor produce a sack, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi initially thought it was just rags.
But he never expected this large sack to be filled with Enlightenment Tea!
There had to be at least three hundred jin of this tea!
Three hundred jin of Enlightenment Tea!
Even Dao Ancestor Hongjun in Zixiao Palace didn't have half a liang of Enlightenment Tea!
My goodness.
The Jade Emperor is this generous?
He just said he picked this tea himself. Could he possibly have a tea plantation of Enlightenment Tea?
Impossible!
Absolutely impossible!
If such a tea plantation existed in the Primordial Era, it would undoubtedly be in Zixiao Palace, not anywhere else.
And Zixiao Palace does not have an Enlightenment Tea plantation!
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi's heart pounded. He stared at the Enlightenment Tea, his breathing growing rapid, his eyes practically burning with envy.
"How about it? Become my subject, and you can drink Enlightenment Tea every day," the Jade Emperor said, pleased with Grand Supreme Elder Laozi's reaction.
What of Saints? Even Saints covet Enlightenment Tea!
"Jade Emperor, are you still half asleep?"
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi laughed heartily. "While Enlightenment Tea is good, it's not particularly useful for us Saints. Do you really think you can make me submit with this tea?"
"Us Saints?" the Jade Emperor sneered. "You're merely a Good Corpse clone. How dare you call yourself a Saint."
"Hmph, all talk," Grand Supreme Elder Laozi said, rising to escort him out. "Please, be on your way."
"Laozi, you have three days. I'll give you only three days. Submit, or die," the Jade Emperor said, unhurriedly smoothing his dragon robe, his gentle voice laced with deadly intent.
"Please," Grand Supreme Elder Laozi waved his whisk, not responding.
"Alas, what a pity~"
The Jade Emperor sighed, but his face was beaming. He walked away leisurely. "A generation of Laozi will soon vanish~"
"Heh heh, Zhang Bairen, you will ultimately be my puppet. The Heavenly Court is my Heavenly Court!"
Watching the Jade Emperor leave, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi sneered.
Grand Supreme Elder Laozi didn't believe the Jade Emperor had the slightest ability to shake his position.
In the Heavenly Court, he, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi, was the uncrowned king!
Outside Tushita Palace.
The Jade Emperor strolled leisurely and soon spotted Grand Supreme Elder Laozi's mount, the Green Ox.
"I remember Dad mentioning last time that we should have a whole roasted ox for a family meal. Old Laozi's ox should taste pretty good, right?"
The Jade Emperor stroked his chin, a smile curling at the corner of his lips. He flashed forward, unleashing and then retracting his peak Quasi-Saint power, and with a flick of his sleeve, he pocketed the Golden Immortal realm Green Ox. He then vanished from Tushita Palace.
"You little Jade Emperor!"
Inside Tushita Palace, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi had just sat down when he sensed his mount, the Green Ox, had been abducted.
Enraged, Grand Supreme Elder Laozi cursed loudly.
Meanwhile, the Jade Emperor roared with laughter.
