Background
Yang Jian began as a major Heavenly Court god and the Jade Emperor's nephew. Though he had never truly submitted even to the Jade Emperor, he understood his role as an enforcer who handled matters unsuitable for the court to address openly. He went to Heaven to learn the court's stance toward the Journey to the West team, only to be humiliated by the Seven Fairies' formation and transformed into a three-eyed puppy. 10 11
The Jade Emperor entrusted him with annihilating the Journey to the West team and promised him a future Great Dao Saint position. Yang Jian accepted despite recognizing that the mission meant openly confronting both the Western Teachings and Dao Ancestor Hongjun's arrangements. 11
His standing changed further after meeting Zhang Yifan, whom he recognizes as his maternal grandfather. Zhang Yifan's food, Enlightenment Tea, Great Dao Law fragments, and artifacts became central to Yang Jian's rise. Yang Jian also used these resources to strengthen his Meishan brothers, his master True Lord Yuding, and the Howling Celestial Dog. 14 18 49 51
Appearance
Yang Jian appears as a handsome, refined young man with sword-like eyebrows and bright eyes. He possesses a divine eye on his forehead and is associated with a three-eyed appearance. 14 372
- Handsome and well-built, as noted by Zhang Yifan. 14
- Has a forehead divine eye capable of releasing destructive force. 372
- Was once transformed into a small three-eyed pet puppy by the Seven Fairies. 10
- His physical body becomes visibly imposing when he fully circulates the Nine Revolutions Primordial Technique, with muscles described as coiled dragons. 253 374
Personality
Yang Jian is proud, fearless, and highly unwilling to surrender. His defeat by the Seven Fairies exposed his initial overconfidence, but he responded by pursuing strength more seriously and expanding his influence. 10 49
He is loyal to the Jade Emperor and protective of Zhang Yifan's secrets, yet he is not merely obedient. He understands court politics, recruits capable subordinates through generosity, and builds a personal power base among the Mount Hua guards. 98 100 103
He is playful around family and close allies, particularly Sect Master Tongtian, but can become ruthless and provocative toward enemies. His willingness to publicly taunt Dao Ancestor Hongjun's clone and later insult Hongjun directly demonstrates both audacity and strategic calculation. 35 143 148
