Background / History

Hongjun’s rise was later tied to the Heaven Sealing Plan, a long-term scheme intended to remove powerful rivals, dominate the Primordial Continent, and ultimately surpass the Heavenly Dao itself. Its early stages allegedly included cooperation with Demon Ancestor Luohu to provoke the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin clans into the Dragon-Han Initial Tribulation. The two reportedly infiltrated the clans in disguise, inflamed their conflicts, and wiped out many Chaos Divine Beast and Primordial Fierce Beast remnants. 42 43

Following the Dao-Demon Conflict, Hongjun killed Luohu, became a Saint, and gained unmatched influence over the Primordial Continent. He later preached at Zixiao Palace, gathering powerful cultivators under immense karmic obligations. The preaching established Xuanmen, made its leading cultivators address him as Teacher and Dao Ancestor, and created six Saint positions that could only be granted through his authority. 43 44

The later stages of the Heaven Sealing Plan targeted Pangu’s possible return. The Witch-Demon Calamity was intended to sever the foundation for Pangu’s physical body, while the Investiture of the Gods Calamity divided the Three Pure Ones and prevented the restoration of Pangu’s primordial spirit. The latter calamity also weakened the Jie Teachings and Chan Teachings, intensified conflicts among the Saints, weakened the Human Dao, and constrained the Jade Emperor through the Investiture of the Gods List. 46

Hongjun eventually assimilated the Will of the Heavenly Dao, declaring himself the Heavenly Dao and the sole supreme being of the Primordial Era. Three wisps of the Heavenly Dao’s consciousness escaped the assimilation and became Azure Heaven, Yellow Heaven, and Blue Heaven. 189

Appearance

Hongjun commonly manifests as an elderly Daoist with a solemn, detached bearing and overwhelming Heavenly Dao pressure. He can conceal himself so thoroughly that nearby beings fail to notice his presence. 128 148

  • Appears as an unremarkable old man when operating covertly among crowds. 128
  • Has manifested in a gray Daoist robe. 213
  • His true form at Zixiao Palace sits upon a cushion with a solemn Dharma appearance and ethereal Heavenly Dao aura. 148
  • His calm facade can break into visibly disheveled hair, bloodstained lips, and overt killing intent after humiliation or injury. 149 235

Personality

Hongjun presents himself as indifferent, measured, and aligned with the impersonal destiny of the Heavenly Dao. When Tongtian accuses him of scheming and bias, Hongjun insists that all his actions are simply the Heavenly Dao’s destiny. 30

Behind this composure, he is calculating, controlling, and intensely prideful. He treats saints, calamities, and even the Heavenly Dao as instruments for his ascent. His outward serenity repeatedly collapses when his authority is challenged—particularly after Yang Jian destroys his clone, when his origins are exposed, and when the Golden Robe Wearer injures him. 149 235 283

He also possesses a competitive fascination with powerful opponents. During his battle with Taiqing Saint King, he openly revels in the destructive contest before eventually deciding to end it once it ceases to entertain him. 233
