Background

Ancient taboo

The name Heavenly Court was originally associated with an ancient, failed ambition. Several beings close to the Emperor realm intended to found a supreme force that would rule all heavens and suppress the darkness of all worlds. Before it could be established, darkness descended, the Sea of Worlds' dikes collapsed, and its founders were besieged and killed. The attempt became known as a taboo: those who claimed sovereignty under the name were believed to incur immense karma and calamity 140.

Ye Xuan's founding

After shattering the old order of the Three Thousand Provinces, Ye Xuan established a new Heavenly Court at the former Immortal Hall Ancestral Grounds. He used creation power to cleanse the ruins, create a pure land, and raise palaces from condensed Great Dao Laws rather than conventional materials 277.

The Court was founded to gather the scattered strength of the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands before the coming Great Calamity. Its initial resources included treasure-vault wealth seized from major Dao lineages, such as immortal gold, divine medicines, dragon marrow, and ancient scriptures 277.

Celestial reconstruction

Following the collapse of the Demon Heavenly Court, Hongjun Daozu declared that the Heavenly Court—the pivot governing the Three Realms and regulating yin and yang—could not remain masterless. Ye Xuan secured the position of Heavenly Emperor with the support of Tongtian Jiaozhu, Nuwa, and Laozi; Xihe was appointed Heavenly Empress 405 407.

Ye Xuan then purified the Thirty-Three Heavens, rebuilt the High Heaven Palace, and filled the Court's core offices with Human Race elites and Wu Clan warriors loyal to him 409.
